See, this is a form of "western" hegemony that is kind of invisible yet potent, certification and standardization regime. China too tries to play this game by Belt and Road Initiative. A lot of people may be even Biden mischaracterized BRI as infrastructure buildings instead of the attempt of building standard and influence.
BRI primary purpose is to allow China alternative transportation links to be able to bypass the Malacca and Lombok Straits if the US tries to blockade China and starve it. Any other considerations such as "standards and influence" are coincidental and distant secondary benefits.

China having cloud technology does not increase China's fragility. China not having cloud technology increases its fragility because when its technological enterprises are less efficient, it will fall behind and China will lag the rest of the world in tech, which will degrade its economic and defense capabilities in the long run.
Parler.com outsourced its entire IT operation to the cloud; it became so efficient that it nearly died. How is such a stupid thing good for China?

I don't understand any of your argument. Chinese tech companies are creating their own cloud infrastructure for Chinese companies and worldwide companies. I think someone posted that alibaba cloud was larger than google cloud (#3 spot?). Anyone is welcome to just rent server/vps off a "cloud" provider, it is up to a company and software team to figure out how coupled they want their code to be with any proprietory API/services that a vendor may provide.

Well here come the episode 5 of the series "China reinvent itself" easily the best episode Mind you this was filmed about 2 years ago So a lot of the project depicted here has been successfully completed.
In this episode it talk about space and under sea exploration switching back and forth.
Denying technology to China will never succeed because the Chinese will invent it themselves slow maybe but relentless

When we watch long march rocket launch it look so easy. But behind those launches there is years of hard work and toil, from improving engine of ever greater thrust to testing drill sample of Chang'e 5 all the way to building Tianwen space lab . As the chief engineer said " We have to invent every single technical break thru by ourselves. We can't depend on other" Indeed as china was denied access to space technology It also talk about Kuaizhou rocket and network of micro satellite

On under sea exploration It talk about the Jiaolong undersea submersible deep dive in Mariana trench and building a better deep sea submersible. It also talk about Haiying glider very fascinating look at this undersea sensor . In one of the experiment they want to collect data when Typhoon hit so they send these glider in the path of Typhoon 50km apart. But will it survive the typhoon? After agonizing wait eventually the Haiying come calling

Up above, thousands of satellites are constantly in orbit. While most are substantial spacecraft weighing thousands of kilograms, some members of this extraterrestrial community are much, much smaller - the microsatellites. And if Wang Yang and his team have anything to do with it, they’re set to get even smaller. That’s because he’s developing a satellite that weighs just 100kg - the first of a projected constellation of microsatellites capable of creating a space network for the whole planet!

Yes, you truly don't understand. Do you dispute the fact that parler.com nearly died? Think about that happening to lots of Chinese companies, even some large ones. Then maybe you will understand why I think the cloud is toxic for Mainland China.

Not directly related, but do we have any news on efforts to combat urban/rural gap in education in China? While the recent efforts to strengthen the rural economy and fight poverty are vital, I hope more is being done to address providing effective education to all. I’ve traveled extensively in the Chinese countryside and some of the school conditions left a lot to be desired, this combined with many parents being absents will have quite a large effect on a child’s development.

Strengthen the rural economy and alleviation of poverty are the vital first step.
Urbanization of extreme rural communities are ongoing and is another step in reducing the educational gap.
Unfortunately, the urban/rural educational gap reduction is a long term commitment that will require at least a generation to mitigate. Hence resulting in a lack of short-term updates and news.
As you already know, The first generation will needs to be lifted out of poverty and given economic opportunities. They can then pursue their cultural and educational aspiration at a modernize educational institution and will need to be incentivized to stay or return to their communities. They can then contribute to uplifting their community. The second generation will also need further incentive to stay and pursue a appealing standard of living. This has to be repeated over a few generation. Only then can the educational gap be mitigated but even then, there is no sure guarantee of success.

Do you even work in the IT industry? If Parler owns its own servers, you don’t think they will be disconnected by its ISP? Even if they can find a small ISP willing to service it, the backbone companies will kick out the small ISP.

The usual western drivel and hubris Every aircraft project that I know are facing delay let alone China that never built commercial airline. I am glad he mention boeing 737 but the irony is stark by his own confession 737 facing 4 years delay even worst crash twice prompting airline all over the world to ground it.

C919 will be certified today and with every years will increase the domestic content They make sure that foreign component must be built by joint venture company Yes it is technology transfer but China also has military aircraft industry and they are thriving with Y 20 program. It will form a backup and provide skilled engineer and research lab that worst come worst they can crack the foreign technology save the engine .

So this video above is your usual western superiority hubris! China fail with Y10 has no relevance to C919 program when Chinese industrial base and financial is way much stronger

It is no different than Airbus that for decades lost money and only recently profitable. Therefore needed infusion of cash and government support. that is why there is dispute with Boeing
