Another article on the SIXT deal. I think this is one of the most impressive things to have happened to Chinese auto industry. The more I think about it, the more impressive it gets.
- Since BYD charges 38k euro per Atto 3, this would be around a 4 billion EUR deal if there are some Seal/Han/Dolphin mixed in.
- This would be close to the biggest order in the history of auto industry with only the Hertz/Tesla deal in the same ballpark.
- BYD managed to get this deal done despite not having started selling vehicles in Germany yet.
- SIXT picked BYD over all of those big name German automakers even though it normally buys German cars.
- It's a huge boost to the reputation of BYD to get such a large deal. Now, people who haven't paid attention will have to notice
I think in all likelihood, BYD probably did give SIXT a discount here in order to get this deal done. SIXT likely realized that German automakers simply cannot deliver the vehicles they need. As such, BYD is best positioned to deliver them 20k cars a year. Even having said that, SIXT is taking a big risk here with an automaker that Europeans haven't heard of. I'm looking forward to hearing more about this. Quite amazing to see it on the backs of the September delivery numbers.
