Chery has lots of experience entering overseas markets and in marketing but have pretty crappy technology which causes them to have such a stupid lineup of cars competing with each other.

They would be better off merging with one of the other large SOEs.

Contratic to your claims, chery have good technology but bad marketing.
Bad marketing in domestic market, that's true. (also partially caused by ugly designs). But they're one of the only ones with decent experience marketing overseas other than GWM, Geely. They arguably have the strongest brand recognition amongst Chinese companies in overseas markets.

I think their technology is overhyped. They have a reputation for being a "理工男" but when you really compare their tech with others they're seemingly always behind. Their ACTECO engines are nothing special, Kunpeng DHT has worse fuel consumption than competitors and they are abandoning their own developed CVT for aisin AT gearboxes.

Yes, this is really big. You don't really make this kind of commitment before the car even started selling in your country unless you are confident about it. We've seen both Tesla and GM getting major orders from American rental company, so it's good to see BYD making in road in rest of the world. I'd be surprised if BYD does not build a factory in Europe for atto 3 and Dolphin.

here is the BYD tweet

It's funny how these cheap cars from China get so much more expensive even when they get to ASEAN countries. I hope they do well there given the investment of local factory.

I think Chery will be quite successful here. They just started assembling cars in Indonesia recently fhttps://indonesia.postsen.com/business/246954/Chery-Starts-Assembling-Cars-in-Indonesia-Nebeng-in-This-Factory.html. They can move on to EVs in Indonesian market soon.

Well, that really depends what's being sold. If a good number of those EVs are Wuling, then average unit price will be lower.

Other things to consider from BYD September numbers.

Seal has mostly been selling the SR/LR version. The performant version has just started delivery, will deliver about 3000 in October. Total delivery in October expecting to be 15k. Expecting to hit 25k by December.

Yuan series is now getting produced by Changzhou and Hefei. They are looking to start production in Zhengzhou also. They are look to exceed 50k per month by next year with 30k+ for export market.

Qin series did not reach 40k. Hefei has not fully ramped up Qin yet. Will go over 40k in October.

Song family is likedly to hit 55k per month by Q4. Xi'an's 3rd phase has started production of Song+. Jinan has started producing Song family in Q4.

They are expecting to further ramp up Tang family to 25k a month in Q4 with DM-i version being 17.5k, DM-p beign 2800 and EV only 4700.

Han family in Q4 is likely to reach 35k a month.
The Indon gov demand local assembly or partial manufacturing to boost jobs here. As a result the uber low efficiency and additional car tax bring up the retail price.

Another article on the SIXT deal. I think this is one of the most impressive things to have happened to Chinese auto industry. The more I think about it, the more impressive it gets.

- Since BYD charges 38k euro per Atto 3, this would be around a 4 billion EUR deal if there are some Seal/Han/Dolphin mixed in.
- This would be close to the biggest order in the history of auto industry with only the Hertz/Tesla deal in the same ballpark.
- BYD managed to get this deal done despite not having started selling vehicles in Germany yet.
- SIXT picked BYD over all of those big name German automakers even though it normally buys German cars.
- It's a huge boost to the reputation of BYD to get such a large deal. Now, people who haven't paid attention will have to notice

I think in all likelihood, BYD probably did give SIXT a discount here in order to get this deal done. SIXT likely realized that German automakers simply cannot deliver the vehicles they need. As such, BYD is best positioned to deliver them 20k cars a year. Even having said that, SIXT is taking a big risk here with an automaker that Europeans haven't heard of. I'm looking forward to hearing more about this. Quite amazing to see it on the backs of the September delivery numbers.
