They do

Substantively, the sanctions are meaningless.
Well if they have the potential to basically render trump bankrupt and literally in financial hell along with all of his children, well it isn’t meaningless then. On the plus side, if he tries to complain, any one can bring up how he was censured by the media after the riots as a breach of the amendment for free speech that went without opposition, hence rendering the whole American amendments a load of crap by default and thus less of a reason to care about an orange that is going spoilt. Also China is in a position of growth and the USA in a very bad position right now that is going to get worse no matter what, Biden would be trying to do everything not to make things worse for himself and that involves trying to ask China for a time out at the very least, not trying to deprive his constituents any more profits from China because some idiot thought that the USA is the only nation to grow soy beans, which funny enough rendered many price farms who would have been in a good situation now being completely dependant on the government for pensions. Face it, the USA farms are begging for a chance to sell there products to China again, not the other way round and this is all because of people who thought they are in control

Seriously the question is begging or not begging is least important.

As long as they can meet, that can chill the temperature a bit. That's what we need not meaningless grandstanding.

Captain

As in begging a meeting with Pompeo in Hawaii back in July last year?

This is called managing the US proactively, or more specifically managing the decline of the US. China did not, do not, and will not give in anything substantial to the US, not if there is no quid pro quo. But it will give enough face to the US. Who is the more mature and responsible party between the two?

If you still can't see the big picture here, at least you can look back several decades in terms of where they were then and where they are now. I mean China did make concessions and even absorbed some humiliation. But the results? Is there even any question?

As I said in other thread, China has shown it's a far superior strategic player than the US so far. This is just another example.

they are not completely meaningless
Any private sector with significant business interests in China will not hire them
Subsequently when pompeo try to run for next election those companies will not donate to his campaign either for fear of being sanctioned by China
the irony is China learn this trick from trump lol

China has always approached to newly elected U.S. presidents with a quite a bit of space to manoeuvre with ease during their first days. It is still too early to dig for meaningful comments on bilateral relations.
