Just what is it with these little puny countries, what do they hope to gain from poking their noses where they don't belong.

Have the lost their senses to deliberately going up against the biggest market for their wares? And instead going out of their way to court a country of 20 million people and antagonize 1.3 billion people in the process.

Let's face it. If that's what you believe in, then fine. Go and cut all ties with China and recognise Taiwan instead. Stop playing games and do this sort of antics while maintaining diplomatic ties with China. It is really annoying.

Taiwan president Tsai Ing-Wen meets Czech senate …:

China should focus target any and all exports from the home region of this Czech senator for total economic sanctions. Find out who every major donor to him is and put them on sanctions lists. That’s the ‘free and democratic’ way after all.

See if his constituency will still vote for him once the costs of his idiocy start to affect them.

In the case of the Czech Republic it is for domestic political consumption. They were one of the ex-Soviet states and many of their statesmen have an anti-Communist slant to their policies. But in the case of many Pacific Island/Central American states establishing ties with Taiwan is actually a very shrewd diplomatic maneuver. They basically demand tributes in the form of financial or medical aid from Taiwan periodically just so they don't break off relations and if they do, they usually do so after receiving far better packages from the PRC.

Yes, but that only makes sense because China has only been using a Carrot’s approach, so there really isn’t much downside to politicians or countries damaging Chinese interests for their own narrate gains. That needs to change. If you are friendly towards China, of course China will be friendly and generous to you back. But if you want to actively go out of your way to poke China in the eyes, then you can expect a slap.

What stick approach could China realistically apply? China does not invade other countries and if they haven't established relations, China can't apply economic leverage either.

Plenty if it would just stop trying to be a model citizen.

It can apply economic pressure on the biggest trading partners of offending nations to stop importing from them; it can pressure any major multinational companies those countries depend on heavily to cut off or restrict business ties (tourism is an especially low hanging fruit since most Pacific island nations depending heavily on it, but there are plenty of alternative tropical island destinations while getting on Beijing’s bad books and being locked out of the whole China market could put a massive dint in the the fortunes of any travel company); it can rotate it’s long distance fishing fleet so that they overfish the seas around the offending countries while remaining in international waters; it can actively invest in neighbouring rivals countries in fields offending countries are most heavily dependent on economically to be able to out compete and out produce them and decimate the key economic engines of offending countries; it can give free arms and training to any other countries that have beef with offending countries. And those are just examples off the top of my head.

China can make it clear that for every dollar any of these countries extract from Taiwan in exchange for political recognition, China will spend $10, $100 or whatever is a suitable number to actively and specifically fuck with them so that they loose far more than whatever Taiwan can afford to pay them.
