What I find interesting the reaction of Japanese branch of Huawei? Anybody know how big an operation Huawei has and what are they doing in Japan

Still, anxiety is creeping through Huawei offices from Tokyo to Sydney, employees say. “We can’t deny that it’s had a negative impact, as bad news around Huawei is reported every day,” one of them says. “But employees in Japan are rallying, and we’re just trying to keep working as usual. Some of our customers are even trying to cheer us up.”

Using Huawei for 5G in South Korea presents ‘little security risk’

The presidential Blue House official said South Korea used Huawei hardware for less than 10 per cent of its fifth-generation cellular infrastructure, with the rest provided by Samsung and other firms.

“[Huawei equipment] is clearly isolated from our defence and security telecoms networks,” he reportedly told local media on condition of anonymity, as is common for background briefings from the president’s residence. “There won’t be any impact on South Korea-US military and security interests.”

Europe had installed Huawei products on 40 per cent of its 5G networks, while in Southeast Asia the figure was between 70 and 80 per cent, the high-ranking official added.

Huawei will source parts outside US, solar unit head says

SHANGHAI -- Huawei Technologies' world-leading solar power inverter business will find alternative suppliers for components that it now buys in the U.S. after Washington placed the manufacturer on a trade blacklist, a senior company official told Nikkei.

"We use American parts for some older-model products," said Tony Xu, head of Huawei's smart solar operations.

Huawei holds a 22% share of the global market for solar power inverters, which convert the direct-current electricity produced by panels into alternating current usable by households.

America is surrendering the moral high ground over Huawei

President Donald Trump has suggested that the US approach to Huawei could be a bargaining chip in trade negotiations. By confusing national security threats with leverage, the Trump administration surrenders the moral high ground that has been the foundation of US strength for many decades. Even if heavy-handed tactics appear successful in some cases, small victories come at the price of hard-earned global leadership and the singular power to shape global norms. We can and must take steps to protect our national security. But using those measures as bullying tactics to extract trade commitments abandons important legal and policy values.

Relate to chip design, I heard that though HiSilicon can design its own chip, it uses EDA software which have sources from the US. Does that mean that HiSilicon cannot buy new version of EDA software thus affect its future chip design?

China has their own EDA I believe but for 28 nm chip or larger not the cutting edge of 14 or 7 nm It come but it will take a while
They might not get and update but sofar Cadence has not stop the license only synopsis stop the license

Regarding EDA tools, there's still no confirmation that Cadence has ended support and sales to Huawei.

They will have to. It's a government decree.
But it will just cost them money in software licenses. Software can be pirated.

I don't think a big company such as Huawei won't use pirated software because it would hurt its reputation and give the US more excuses to ban it
