The War in the Ukraine

of all russian held territories, Kherson stands the best chance of being recaptured by Ukraine. with sufficient fire power Ukraine could conceivably destroy the two bridges Russia holds over the Dniepr in order to cut its lines of communications.
If they can advance far enough on the plains surrounding Kherson while being shelled and airstriked. There's no cover. It's built on a flood plain across the mouth of the Dnieper.

At that point the river is narrow. It can be pontooned, and destroying bridges is very hard. US failed to destroy Thanh Hoa Bridge in North Vietnam multiple times and lost 11 aircraft trying despite the full might of the US air force and naval aviation.

After being hit by laser guided bombs in the last attempt, it was repaired within 1 year.

AFAIK, Russia blew up all the fuel depots in Nikolaiv. Pretty hard to mount an offensive on Kherson if you don't have fuel to drive your tanks.

These days with precision weapons bridges are not that hard to destroy. The bridge at Deir es Zor was totaled by Americans.

looks like a pretty bad rout for AFU, but better than getting trapped in a pocket. I wonder how many AFU units will make it out vs trapped?

it looks like Russia for this campaign will be able to push to the river along siversk and Bahkmut. personally I don't think it makes sense to try to cross the river from there if they could not establish a bridgehead before AFU reorgs. it is better to shift focus south and try to take the high grounds around gorlivka, kind of a popasna 2.0. this would then would allow for a strike north towards Sloviansk/Kramatorsk, or south to clear artillery threats around Donetsk, both are worthy objectives.

Looks like after Luhansk, the next oblast to be amputated off the Kiev regime is Donetsk. It's looking like the Russians will play the long game. It's going to take years if not decades to reduce Ukraine's population back down to under 20 million which had blown up to nearly 52 million in 1991 due to oil and therefore modern agriculture.

Uh it was a tiny pedestrian bridge destroyed by rebel artillery shelling.

The Kherson bridges are far out of artillery range thanks to Russian 152 mms set up on the outskirts of Kherson and are reinforced concrete rail and road bridges.

And there's plenty of air defense in Kherson.

The Russian Defense Ministry showed footage of a Mi-35 helicopter sortie in Ukraine. Pilots of the Mi-35 in the roll-up mode carried out an attack on targets and at low altitude left the air defense of Ukraine.

The blow of Russian soldiers from the Kornet ATGM was caught on video. A group of Ukrainian soldiers moved along the forest belt towards the positions of the Ukrainian army. To strike at the enemy, the Russian crew used the 9M133FM-2 missile with a thermobaric warhead, this type of missile can hit infantry and light equipment at a distance of up to 8000 meters.

The militia in Donetsk carried out the modernization of the BMP-2, equipping it with dynamic armor and a Romel box. Also, the protection of the T-64 tank was significantly enhanced, additional elements were added to the standard elements of dynamic protection. "Rommel box" - a turret tank box designed to store ammunition and ammunition, was widely used in the Second World War on the tanks of the African Corps of the German army. The BMP-2 was protected by dynamic armor and equipped with a Romel box, also with dynamic protection. The Ukrainian T-64 tank was reinforced with dynamic protection, and even better than the protection that is on the modernized T-64 tank, and was also equipped with a Romel box.

RuAF sources claim the capture of some 900 Panzerfaust-3s with 3000 AT munitions for them in munition stores in Zolote

RuAF held Lisichansk oil refinery :

Militants of the so-called Legion "Free Russia" appealed to Putin that they are practically already at the border with Russia and they‘ll kill him and and and Ruuuuuunnnnnn!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

For Russia to take Kharkiv both assault and shelling siege is suboptimal. Instead a deep bypass to control the countryside and transport routes around it to cut their supplies, and precision shelling to reduce their artillery and air defense, should be used. Give a few monitored civilian corridors with artillery aimed at it to prevent escapes along them.

This forces defenders to starve and run out of fuel/ammo, or to break out.
