Oh dear, this news must be conflicting for Chinese nationalists.

On the one hand, the defective parts were sourced from China. On the other hand suggesting that Chinese products are quality items so the problem is unlikely to be significant passes up an opportunity to criticise Taiwan.

Chinese nationalists: "Error! Conflict - error! BZZZ! BZZZ! BZZZ! Beoooop."

Anyway, it looks like the problem was found before any/many missiles were built, so no real harm done in the end. Although I doubt the contracting companies in question are going to have a nice next couple of years.

Is this real?
What's the weather report in hell today?
Did someone discover a species of porcine flying creature?

It really isn't so surprising when you think about it. Annette Lu was Vice President during the early 2000s, when ROCAF and ROCN (to a minor extent) held massive advantage to their PRC counterpart. This is not to mention the overwhelming superiority of US military to the PLA. Times, to say the least, have changed. An opportunist like Annette Lu is anything but stupid.

I didn’t realize she moderated her stance nowadays. My idea of her is still from that period where she is considered worse hanjian than even CSB himself.

I don’t think what she said is actually too unreasonable, of course not all of it would be acceptable to the PRC government, but she’s right you cannot just hide behind Americans.

Good that I waited until now to post, because we see what is happening in Ukraine, what happens when you trust Americans too much. Tsai must have a 747 fueled up and ready to go to LAX after this

Lessons from a certain current conflict for a certain future conflict:

1. Never allow social media to broadcast the opponent's side of the message and allow them to control the narrative. Cut the fiber optics and impose a total media blackout so that your side controls the narrative.

2. An accurate missile first strike is devastating, demoralizing and almost impossible to stop.

3. Air and missile forces are sufficient to open the conflict. Ground troops come in to exploit openings, they don't need to make the opening themselves. This means that the ground troops will mostly be shooting retreaters or encircling, rather than going up against entrenched defenses, and vastly reduces casualties.

Agree completely.

Apart from the military lessons, China can also assess

1. The level of reactions from Western governments. Most sanctions so far are quite toothless; they are not touching Russian gas

2. Gauge the willingness of the US to actually bleed for its allies. So far it seems that the US is not willing to bleed for its allies.

3. Study how the Russians will pacify the occupied Ukranian areas and population. Post-war reconstruction is not often talked about in Chinese circles, perhaps this conflict will provide some clues and lessons on how to govern a potentially hostile but culturally congruent population.

On the matter of #3, the CPC would already have archives of how to do this from the formation of the PRC when the propaganda dept. sent cadres and other personnel to demobilize and re-integrate the captured KMT and their supporting populace.

If NATO won’t commit because heating German and Italian houses is too important, you must find the most important supply to cut off to Americans…

So you invade in November, tell the world that any intervention will disrupt the supply of big screen TVs for Super Bowl time, and ta-da Americans stay at home, give Patrick Mahomes a Friendship medal for all the Chinese lives he saved.

In a report printed on Wednesday and sent to the parliament for review by lawmakers, a copy of which was reviewed by Reuters, the defence ministry said the extra spending included plans to boost annual missile production capacity to 497 from the current 207 a year.
Among them are Taiwan's self-made Wan Chien air-to-ground missiles as well as the upgraded version of the Hsiung Feng IIE missile, the longer-range Hsiung Sheng land-attack missile which military experts say is capable of hitting targets further inland in China.

The ministry was also planning to start manufacturing unspecified "attack drones" with an annual production target of 48 such aircraft.
