Look like it has enough space to stack another 4 on top, but would be happy with the original layout of 8 total.

I suspect they might be preparing the ship for firing trials with the YJ-12.

The difference in size is not only because Moskit is a bigger missile, but also because the launch containers for them are rather hangars and you have to transfer the missile from transport container to onboard launch container, while YJ-12 uses the same container for transport and launch.

The rumor is Navy is not satisfied with the remodel, the reason is complex, might be multiple plan changes. There is a joke circling around Chinese forums that the best remodel plan for sov is to strip 138/139's AK130s and put them on 136/137 instead of shtil, make them each have 3 AK130s, and it will be a perfect battle destroyer. Voila!

That's my handiwork right there. Though I have to say given what they did with 136/137, this isn't a likely configuration of 138/139.

No way no how. The kind of expense adding a third turret to a ship is almost certainly cost-prohibitive, especially how minimal the refit changes were to the first two ships.

Not dissatisfied enough so to continue the refit program with 137 which is already underway.

Not perfect though. The illustration lacks the Type 364 radar dome that should be installed on the mast behind the funnel, which is going to happen if there is a refit. The VLS numbers should be cut by half. Kite Screech should be gone, replaced by Type 344 radar, MR123s replaced by Type 346G. Type 382 does not have the IFF between the plates of Top Plate like shown here.
