I love to see chinese companies succeed but the west is waging all out war against China inc. doesn’t seem like China has any options to fight back right now. All in all, China really needs to up its PR game.

Brookings Institution's view on China's lithography prospects are bleak:

" China has virtually no lithography experience or industry. Any Chinese firm trying to develop EUV lithography would have to start from scratch. It would have to close the gap with ASML’s billions of dollars, decades of experience, and the accumulated experience and tacit knowledge of their tens of thousands of employees. And it would have to succeed where experienced, billion-dollar companies failed [note: Probably referring to Nikon]. There is little chance a Chinese company will make an EUV lithography machine in the foreseeable future.

...the United States, the Netherlands, and Japan should impose strict multilateral export controls on the manufacturing equipment—including EUV lithography machines—needed to produce advanced chips. These three countries monopolize chip manufacturing equipment chokepoints with technical barriers to entry similar to that posed by EUV lithography. Targeted export controls will maintain China’s dependence on imports for advanced chips.

In this respect, EUV machines are even more than technological marvels: they offer important avenues for progress. By advancing computer chip technology, they advance frontiers in science and engineering and increase global prosperity. Keeping these machines in the hands of democracies could help sustain this march of progress and prosperity for decades to come. "

The reason Nikon didn't continue its EUV efforts was that it didn't have a captive market when facing ASML's superior existing technology.

How? China's PR is such that even with its rivalry with the entire Western world, the younger generations all over the world are taking more and more of a liking to China. China's world approval rate is higher than the US (though that's due mostly to US decline) and growing on an upwards tick. What more do you want and how do you expect to achieve it? You can't expect to talk someone into hugging you mid-boxing match, can you? No... not unless you're beating him silly. The only way China gets out of this is to be so much stronger that its rivals are deflated and give up to embrace Chinese power. That is hard power and science, not PR.

The West and the Japanese want to keep China's perpetual dependency on them when it comes to semiconductor and IC manufacturing equipment tech...

But the Brooking's Institute should do a lot more research as to China's present tech capabilities...

That approval rating is from 2019 before Covid-19 pandemic which was blamed on China. The real approval rating situation won't be known until after it's all over.

True, but t's all comparative. The US approval rating is also before their botching of the COVID response and also the BLM police brutality issues erupted. The difference is that while the rational-thinking citizens and countries are likely to improve their views on China seeing China's competency and generosity handling COVID (which will offset some or all of those who are irrational about it), there is basically no way anyone can view the US any better in light of the recent events.

And it looks increasingly likely that the Coronavirus will have been found to be circulating around the world for some months before the Wuhan outbreak exploded. So how could it be China's fault?

Maybe it was actually another Spanish Flu.

Dr Tom Jefferson, senior associate tutor at the Centre for Evidence-Based Medicine (CEBM), at Oxford and a visiting professor at Newcastle University, argues there is growing evidence that the virus was elsewhere before it emerged in Asia.

Last week, Spanish virologists announced that they had found traces of the disease in samples of waste water collected in March 2019, nine months before coronavirus was seen in China.

Italian scientists have also found evidence of coronavirus in sewage samples in Milan and Turin in mid-December, many weeks before the first case was detected, while experts have found evidence of traces in Brazil in November.

If the US election Joe Biden, he can blame botching COVID and the BLM police brutality issues on Trump. Democratic Presidents are a lot more popular overseas than Trump.

That's why I don't want Sleepy Joe to win. But still, changing presidents is like putting a band-aid on a broken arm. Trump didn't make America bigoted; he showed the world how bigoted America is. The world saw an ugliness from America they won't soon forget, and Germany has said that from what they saw, simply changing presidents would not be enough for forgiveness.

I do think Joe would be a boon to America's global image, but in the end, China always grew and made its progress with the world on America's side so it's not a make-or-break for the Chinese. China's main strength lies in itself, not in how badly America screws up; that's just a delicious bonus.
