Idk why Xiaomi software sucks so much in recent times. They sell a big amount, but still unable to make a good android derived software. BBK and Xiaomi are both bad there. It was different 3 years ago when the new processor and other things like a lot ram or big battery packed in nice smartphone with good price made a thing. Now if the processor is a bit better than the previous doesn't matter, but the software ecosystem is the most important.

I have 3 years old Honor phone, so I was walking around and looking for phones, I looked at the Xiaomi phones, and it is as I would be using my old phone. While normal P40 Huawei is at another level, the same new phones from Samsung. Waiting for some discount and will buy P40 normal phone, because I don't need a flagship.

The only usable software right now in phones are Samsung, Huawei, and Apple, I heard also good are Google phones but never had in my hand.

What you wrote is why many people praise Huawei so much as the most innovative and important company in China.

I was actually expecting Xiaomi to use HarmonyOS as they have plenty of IoT products which could be well-integrated with each other and thus increase their sales and prices due to better services.

Disappointing companies, Xiaomi and BBK. I know that ideally they want to have total control but playing these sorts of games against Huawei in China will hurt them very badly if Huawei raises the patriotic banner, and may even find themselves in trouble with the CPC itself.

Either quickly release a new OS (max 2 yrs) or use HarmonyOS. By keep using Android they are not helping anyone. They could at the very minimum, switch their Chinese phones to HarmonyOS and let their international models with Android (and maybe very gradually phase it out in the future)

Yeah name a product and chances are that Xiaomi has put a chip on it and made it a IoT product.

I already expected it would happen like that, ooh it just android underneath with a ios kind of skin on top. They even claim the MateView screen is a Mac rip off. Its like ooh it has a rectangle as shape must be a apple clone.

I don't think Huawei will go back the point of no return has already been passed, god knows what a republican president in 2024 will do if they go back to Android and GMS. And google themselves are also moving away from android toward a Microkernel designed Operating system called Fuchsia.

That's why China shouldn't be even feigning negotiation. The Republicans still want to believe the world is dependent on them. The sooner China creates alternatives and the US starts losing money because they don't have monopolies, the better for the world.

lol Xiaomi is not disappointing. They innovate on the hardware and UI end rather than like Huawei. Of course Huawei is a giant compared to Xiaomi and Xiaomi isn't limited to selling phones. Xiaomi outsources much of its engineering and development, even manufacturing. It innovated their business model and it's a hugely successful company and money maker. It may not be technologically impressive but why does that mean they deserve condemnation? Their business model doesn't exactly promote spending effort to develop their own OS. They would have little to gain and potentially ruin their entire organisation with such a project if it isn't well accepted. Huawei has much more means to do this re material and people but they also have more chance of state support. BBK and Xiaomi would be competing with Huawei in OS if they chose to sink funds into developing one.

Instead they focus on unique phones and that's sort of their market.

Chinese companies innovated under screen fingerprint scanning, fast charging, multi-lens cameras, machine learning for photos, night-mode photography, took curved display tech to another level (after Samsung), folding screens (head to head with Samsung), under screen camera (with working display)... These things aren't OS related.

Oh and I believe transparent displays which I think Xiaomi first brought to market.

Folding screens are Chinese own companies rather than outsourced supply from Samsung like Oppo did with a lot of their products. Anyway it's a free market field but there is not one department where China isn't leading and capable of doing... and for a while already.

If Xiaomi sucks so much how come they're the first to bring transparent screen to market?

Lab work and bringing to market are very different leagues. If they can bring to market, it means their lab work finished years and years ago. BOE finished their foldable display tech half a decade ago and the Royal fold whatever flop project for early adopters used a finished product in around 2017-2018. They just rarely announce everything because there is too much progress and ground being made. It's not like announcing Huawei and partners are working on 6th gen telecomm tech with a satellite test (NOT starlink equivalent which is surely another program but a state led one).

You should have tried the xiaomi 10T pro series, 11pro and 11 ultra series. These are superior smartphones used all over the world.

In the case of BBK it was one of the higher level managers who claimed that they won't use HarmonyOS and disparaged Huawei, but he has since apologized for the statement and left the company. I think that BBK are open to using the OS.
Whether BBK or Xiaomi package some phone models with Harmony OS is mostly a commercial decision imo. I think as long as ROMs are provided for non-Huawei phones, then it will gain traction within China organically. If ROMs are not provided for non-Huawei phones, it's going to be tough getting critical mass, unless there is some overriding factor like vastly superior performance.

I doubt that they will be able to cope with domestic pressure ad theyvhave started being seen as US' puppets

Only thing remaining is a a patriotic "rally around the flag" marketing campaign from Huawei and these companies will have to change course

It mostly depends on the CPC, but if they decide to give the green light, then these domestic companies would have to either quickly create another OS or they will have to go with HarmonyOS (domestically at the very least)

The public pressure would be too much from them to resist

Spent a quick 20 min in my break with DevEco and the SDK, seems a bit limited you can only run [Lite] wearables projects locally, phone and other device simulator are not available yet or I missed it.
