See? That's what i've been saying all the time. Education & Economy are two most important pillars. China must be innovative even in the way how they teach. We have always maintained South Korea & Japan as the gold standard of education.

China & other east asian countries must stop the brain drain at any cost. Because that's the biggest national security challenge.

Haha, I was watching a video on Space Race 2.0 between US and China and one "expert" interviewed said China has advantage in that their political system allows the entire resources of the society to be directed at specific key problems in ways that can't be done in the US. Then he immediately goes on to say "yeah but on the other hand, as far as we know innovation requires bottom up freedom of thought which they don't have over there, so don't count out the US just yet."

I would roll my eyes at that but then again, they've been wrong about everything else about China, so why not on this matter too.
I came across that argument not so long ago. On that occasion the writer came up with a list of discoveries that were bottom up but unfortunately, I lost the link. However many of the discoveries were by chance while looking to solve some other matter. I don't see why that can't happen from top down directed research.

Just ask the German during 1930-end of the war They are at the forefront of science and technology under the most authoritarian government So the idea that science and technology only bloom under democracy is a hoax!

You gotta couple it with the right government policies to provide sufficient jobs and entrepreneurial space.

India has lots of talent but it runs off and never comes back.

China must continue to be friendly to new businesses.

Education is a major problem in the U.S. However, I would say that higher level education at the graduate and post graduate levels are still top notch in select areas.

The problem for US education has always been the philosophy that "cream will naturally rise to the top". In this sense, American schools have never helped the average the student. For the average student needs extra work from teachers, parents, guidance consolers to become above average. Whereas the cream of the crop students will be successful no matter what environment you put them in.

Only 14% of the students can distinguish fact from opinion is not surprsing. I would not be surprised if there was little improvement as they got older.

No it doesn't. This vibe of india having much talent comes from fact that the "big US companies" have indians in top positions. Even if you put al the numbers together of such high position people, you will see that's less than 1% of population of India.

Bingo.
As i said, China must make sure the brains remain at home. East asians are most naturally gifted in core scientific fields such as maths & physics.
It's a serious concern when these people end up in America. I would expect China to leverage it's economy & market to make sure these people don't leave.

21st century will be won by talents. Talents that are rare than rare earths.
