Europe has more international software than any other region besides the US and China. Such as

- Telegram messaging app, originally created in Europe
- Yandex search engine
- Bolt ridesharing app
- Protonmail email service
- TomTom mapping service
- Dailymotion video service
- Vivaldi browser
- Linux OS (originated in Europe)

Compared to Japan, Korea, Taiwan, etc. it certainly has more. What is impressive about Europe? It does all this without a protected market. Most Chinese software companies are only successful due to a protected market. There's really no telling how well they would have done if the market was not totally protected. Europe is #2 in the world in terms of software/social media outside their own market while not having a protected market.

As a Chinese American, I can more easily use European software than any other non-American software.

The only reason China has software companies is due to the domestic market. It has nothing available for the international market, except maybe UC Browser in Indonesia and TikTok whose future is in question to say the least. Further, using European software is safer since Europe maintained good relations with the US, it's less likely to get banned if it's successful.

If you are an entrepreneur in China, if you want to develop software for the international market, it has to go on the App Store or GPS. You will realize there is the threat of being banned, and this will be a de-motivating factor. The rewards for you will be lower than entrepreneurs in other countries. That puts you at a disadvantage. You have to consider politics, they don't. If you develop only for the domestic market, then you have a lower ceiling on revenue than other software companies. Again, that puts you at a disadvantage. Further, you face less competitive pressures due to only competing in a protected market. While that may feel good at first, over the long run it will only result in tolerance for a lower quality product, which is not good.

I won't take your bait. I didn't even read most of your post, deleted by moderator due to insult

Anyways, just for the record, most of Europe doesn't consider Russia as European. The fact that you are claiming Yandex and Telegram to European is quite funny and just shows how less you know about Europe and Europeans, deleted by moderator due to insult

What a troll. Dont feed him, just use the report button. Amazon, Google, Facebook, Youtube, Twitter dominated the entire social media, cloud and digital sectors of Europe. Even EU herself is just starting to talk about the need to establish digital sovereignty.

..new study says U.S. in fifth place behind Japan, South Korea, Europe and China in terms of the number of international patents in battery technology...

One area the U.S. is strong in is potential next-generation batteries, the study says. The U.S. is the leader with 36% of patents on lithium-nickel-cobalt-aluminum-oxide chemistry for Li-ion batteries, which are already being used by Panasonic and Tesla.

The U.S. trails only Japan in patents for solid-state Li-ion battery patents, and is the leader with nearly a third of all patent applications in Redox flow batteries.

Have you read the history of jp invasion and "occupation" of china, or watched the movie "love, caution"? The main reason jp held a grip on china is because there were ppl who were willing, for whatever reason, to be those "bridges".
Isn't that call compradors? Chinese call them running dogs.

Hi machupicu,

Skywatcher, you are correct regarding SMIC N+1, now we wait and hopefully WTAN can give us more news update inside China.
As far as i know, the N+1 Chip will be undergoing Trial Production by the end of this year 2020. It is slated to undergo actual mass production in 2021. SMIC will be using its existing ASML Lithographs and foreign equipment for the trial production of this Chip.

Bear in mind that the SMEE 28nm Lithograph will be released in 2021. There is a good chance that SMEE will build a De-Americanised production line in 2021 to supply this Chip to clients including Huawei.

The new Entity List rules will very likely also apply to SMIC, so SMIC may be forced to supply Huawei with Chips. SMIC may have no choice but to build a De-Americanised N+1 production line to supply Huawei.

SMIC's Second-Gen FinFET N+1 Enters the Customer Introduction Stage

Chinese foundry SMIC (00981:HK, 688981:SH) said that its second-generation FinFET N+1 has entered the customer introduction stage and is expected to be trial-produced in small batches by the end of 2020.

The N+1 technique is equivalent to an advanced node below 14nm, which can be applied to new fields including 5G, AI and Smart driving.
