I saw this on Chinese social media. This is why Chinese automaker or any other companies increasing market share against foreign companies operating in China is a great thing.

Notice how in this example, BYD and other Chinese companies are offering die casting machinery from Chinese companies (well aside from Geeely that is). Tesla on the other hand is ordering those machines from IDRA.

Yizumi here is the main player. You can read here on just how much BYD has ordered from Yizmui.

IDRA is owned by LK Machinery. It's an HK company. Most of their plants are in China tho.

Why hasn't China been able to develop its own OS. China is still using Windows, macOS, iOS, Android all foreign (American) systems. China has 1.4 billlion people and a 17.7 trillion dollar economy and probably the world's largest coding workforce. China has tried with several Linux distros but without any success. The closest thing to a success is HarmonyOS from Huawei. But HarmonyOS only has about 4% market share in China.

Simple:

1) There has not been an urgent need

2) This is more important: your operating system is as good as applications developed to run on it. windows has millions of app developed to run on it so its ecosystem is unrivalled for pc. The same is true for android and apple os for mobile. With time it can change but requires investment, time, and stable/predictable environment so that developers would know when they develop an app it will be used and generate revenue.

btw, if you are concerned that Apple is weaning itself of the Chinese supply chain, you really shouldn't be. Even if production gets moved to Vietnam, they are still operated by Chinese companies or FoxConn. It's really hard to beat the low/medium cost manufacturing advantage of Chinese model.

in latest example, BYD built a huge factory for producing glass back cover for iPhones. It uses the latest machines, processes and design and is highly automated. Maybe at some point this gets moved to Vietnam like BYD's iPad production, it's not necessarily a bad thing.
