btw, if you are concerned that Apple is weaning itself of the Chinese supply chain, you really shouldn't be. Even if production gets moved to Vietnam, they are still operated by Chinese companies or FoxConn. It's really hard to beat the low/medium cost manufacturing advantage of Chinese model.

in latest example, BYD built a huge factory for producing glass back cover for iPhones. It uses the latest machines, processes and design and is highly automated. Maybe at some point this gets moved to Vietnam like BYD's iPad production, it's not necessarily a bad thing.
Lol why would anyone be worried about Apple? Instant Apple actually messes with China is the day they’re banned and can say bye to a third of their revenue. They are the American company most loyal to china. Except maybe Tesla

Forced labor. Western media will interview an anonymous survivor robot of Chinese robot labor camps.
We have all seen the West's hypocritical attitude towards climate change. I wouldn't even be surprised if they suddenly started caring about robot welfare to slow down the widening technological gap between them and Asia. And MSM will be onboard as well, decrying the "horrible" treatment of robots in Asia while glorifying mass euthanasia at home.

Simple:

1) There has not been an urgent need

2) This is more important: your operating system is as good as applications developed to run on it. windows has millions of app developed to run on it so its ecosystem is unrivalled for pc. The same is true for android and apple os for mobile. With time it can change but requires investment, time, and stable/predictable environment so that developers would know when they develop an app it will be used and generate revenue.
China has a unique digital ecosystem. China doesn't use Facebook, Netflix, Google, Twitter, Youtube or many others. But China uses its own domestic alternatives and equivalents. China has everything in place except a own domestic OS. You don't need to create new applications just get the existing ones to run on the new OS.

It cost a lot of money to adapt the applications to the new OS and to run the servers to store them. This is where the government can come in and help them with some "seed money" for this purpose.

KylinOS is mostly used by the government but in the commercial and consumer space its still Android, Windows and iOS that dominates.

That's not even the main issue. Apple is enormously dependent upon China in terms of production. Despite all the hype, India only has 5% of total iPhone production. A single city in China produces more than all of India.

Apple is trying to diversify but it is simply extremely difficult to pull off. Now that China has finally began to drop the Zero Covid insanity, the arguments against China becomes even weaker. Moreover, even many of the contracting firms that work with Apple are Chinese now (like Luxshare).

Apple is used as an example because they are an extremely demanding customer at the top of their game. So they are seen as the gold standard in consumer electronics. And the fact that they are still massively reliant on China - and will likely remain so - counters all this empty hype about decoupling. Facts on the ground tell a different story.

Huawei and Tianjin Port join hands to create a safe, efficient, and intelligent port with 5G and L4 autonomous driving

chinadaily.com.cn | Updated: 2022-12-09 09:00

It has been one year since the commercialization of 5G and L4 autonomous driving technologies at the Port of Tianjin, a world-leading smart port powered by Huawei's technology. Upon introducing these technologies to the Section C Terminal in its Beijiang Port Area in October 2021, the Port of Tianjin realized more efficient, intelligent, and safer operations. Since then, the port has been referred to as "the world's first" on many occasions, becoming a global role model for low-carbon smart ports.

At the terminal, container cranes operate automatically, and unmanned electric container trucks come and go. Furthermore, remotely controlled quay cranes lift loaded containers from cargo ships, before loading them onto unmanned trucks. Under the guidance of the BeiDou Navigation Satellite System, container trucks go to automatic locking/unlocking stations, according to optimal driving routes that are calculated in real time. Here they are loaded with containers, and then drive them to the container yard. The entire process is completed in one smooth operation.

This terminal is the latest result of collaboration between the Tianjin Port Group, Huawei, and numerous other partners, all of which are aiming to create a world-class, smart, and green port. One of the key innovations is a truly AI-powered intelligent horizontal transportation management system, which is helping deliver a number of breakthroughs to the Tianjin Port: The world's first large-scale commercial deployment of superior L4 autonomous driving in ports, the world's first "5G + BeiDou" integration to enable ubiquitous intelligence, and the world's first port to achieve self-sufficiency in green electricity, meaning the port's end-to-end operations produce zero carbon emissions. The system can serve as a role model for the intelligent upgrade and low-carbon development of ports worldwide.

Yang Jiemin, Vice President of the Tianjin Port Group, noted: "Ports are one of the world's oldest industries. Huawei is an engine that powers technological progress. When the old meets the new, I believe they will create tremendous new vitality. The Tianjin Port has been involved in comprehensive and in-depth cooperation with Huawei, and this partnership has paid off. Thanks to the joint efforts of a consortium of innovative companies, represented by Huawei, we have overcome many difficulties and successfully transformed the terminal of Section C in Beijiang port area of the Tianjin Port into a showcase for next-generation automated ports, while making significant contributions to the port industry."

Intelligent and digital transformation has created tangible benefits for the Tianjin Port. Previously, huge numbers of container trucks were required to transport containers to the port's container yard, meaning high costs for employing human drivers. Today, the Tianjin Port has 76 container trucks, each of which would need three drivers working three shifts each day to ensure 24/7 operations. This means 210 drivers would be required in total. Achieving such operations would be exhausting and dangerous for the truck drivers, who would have to work long hours along fixed routes. Fortunately, intelligent technology has provided a solution. Currently, transporting a container requires 20% less energy, and cranes are 20% more efficient on average, with each crane moving 39 container units per hour.

The Tianjin Port is one of the most technologically advanced ports in China. It has a 300000-ton-class wharf with a channel depth of 22 meters. In addition, it boasts 192 berths of various types, including 128 berths above the 10000-ton-class. In 2021, the port's cargo throughput reached 435 million tons, ranking ninth globally, while its container throughput exceeded 18.35 million TEUs, ranking eighth.

Yue Kun, CTO of Huawei's Smart Road, Waterway & Port BU, said, "Ports are a key link for maritime transport. They connect trade and supply markets across the globe. Building more efficient and smart ports is becoming increasingly important for the global supply chain. To achieve high-quality development, ports need to embrace digital and intelligent transformation, and build green ecosystems. The Tianjin Port has successful experience in adopting 5G and other digital technologies, making it a role model for transformation within the global port industry."
