I'd prefer that we don't get into geopolitics on this thread. And even if there are reports that US military is trying to help American companies secure lithium deals, it's frankly not going all that well for them. Only China really has the supply chain to refine large amount of lithium.

China needs to do something against this western lithium hegemony. It is like you have lots of oil refineries and supply chain, but if you do not have the oil, still there is nothing you can do. China needs to secure all the lithium that it needs.

In the case of Bolivia, despite the coup, CATL still got the deal.

The thing is that having ownership of lithium mines don't mean you can deny access to others. At end of the day, you have to still sign long term supply contracts and such. For example, Australia is the largest lithium exporter in the world and most of that goes to China. At end of the day, what matter is your entire supply chain, chemistry & production capabilities. Tesla fanboys keep talking about 4680 but its production is still low and chemistry is really not competitive with CATL's ternary batteries.

Geely coming out with another NEV brand aimed at the medium to high end market with both BEVs and PHEVs. First product to launch in 2023.

More on this from well known blogger

Geely name brand's NEV channel in the future only sells BEVs and HIP cars. plan over 300 dealerships.
SEA platform cars all given to Lynk platform, aimed at 150 to 250k BEV
Major change expected in Geely and Lynn in 2023.

Now the JV with UzAuto has been signed. Producing just DM-i models, which make sense given the lack of charging infrastructure in Central Asia. Might be a good move for China to help Central Asian countries build that up as part of BRI so they can buy more Chinese EVs.

Also, I need to look into this more, but micro ev markets should be huge in much of Asia. Countries like India & Indonesia should be full of people using electric two wheelers and A00 segment cars.

online commentary on Seal vs Han. Looks like Seal is better in most aspects, especially with the 3.0 platform. It does seem to me that they need to refresh Han and Tang with 3.0 or else it will look dated compared to Seal and Sea Lion pretty soon, especially since they are in the same price point.
