At this point, there isn't even vapourware from the Japanese automakers.
There's literally nothing to announce as they haven't even started development.
Well, it looks like Tesla gross margin in China is halving from the record 25-30% levels currently.
But if Tesla can maintain current profits if they double sales.
And if they do get to 20 million vehicles per year as targeted, then they do have to become a mass-market car company.
Sure, each vehicle makes less profit, but they make up for this with much larger volumes
At this point, we can legitimately call Tesla a Chinese company anyway. The defacto head of Tesla Automative Global is Chinese and more than half of Tesla production is from China. Plus we'll likely see China account for more than 50% of Tesla sales given the price cuts, which is up somewhat from the current 40% figure.
Tesla's embrace of China has significantly accelerated the development and adoption of clean energy vehicles globally, which will reduce the risk of catastrophic climate change events and also made Elon Musk one of the richest people alive.
It's an example of win-win for China and the US

I think consolidation is more likely. There are too many auto companies in China. They need to be consolidated. BTW, Xiaomi, like Huawei, is also diversifying into the NEV industry.
How competitive is China's NEV industry? This tweet implies that Tesla EVs made in China is at least 40% cheaper than those made in the U.S.
