New Energy Vehicles (NEVs) in China

Man Chinese EV manufacturers are going to make bank. Germans will get hurt but fortunately for them they didn't totally miss the train.

I fear for the Japanese car companies though. It seems that they totally neglected EV development. The only thing that will save them in a couple of years will be their (well earned) brand image and reputation.

Maybe the Germans will have another 10 years for making big bucks in China. Their brands are very strong though, so if they manage to keep up with their Chinese comletitors they might carve out their own market there.

The Japanese can license the battery pack (or buy from Panasonic) and electric motor from someone else (though Toyota may take longer to do that, if its Board doesn't want to admit that the fuel cell gamble probably isn't going to be a winner).

Nearly half of Chinese shoppers intending to buy a car in the next six months said they would buy a local brand, up from about a fifth in 2016, according to a survey by data provider JD Power, released last month.
Lmao. Chinese Car companies are going to dominate the market. Germans and Japanese will lose marketshare.

Now sprinkle some patriotism there and you can pump these numbers even higher.

@Tyler bro nice car but sadly I will never drive one in my lifetime here in the Philippines. Our infrastructure sucks and our electricity billing is among the highest in Asia. The annual flooding alone may cause a fortune to repair it. That is why SUV is the prefer choice to buy, its sporty and high enough to cross the flooded street.
What happens if your car goes of the road /or caught in a raging torrent caused by a flash flood becomes submereged. The electronics wont work, so you are trapped in the car drowning.

The only German company that stands to have a chance in the China and world market for EV's is Volkswagen.

@B.I.B. bro I tell you my experience hope other members is kind and patience enough to listen ;) , two of my cars was submerged by Tropical storm Ondoy ( Typhoon Ketsana) A Honda CVR and an ISUZU TROOPER in 2009, guess why I hate Honda Cars, the parts is so expensive, the sales after service is atrocious and I have to wait 4 months for the parts to be available @vincent is right the Honda require three Chips . While my Isuzu Trooper after on oil change and top overhaul is rearing to go of course the air condition and the radio needed to b replaced. But at least I had the mobility to go around shopping grocery and going to work. Bro that experience lead me to decide to live in a Condo, Its a traumatic experience, more than 80% of Metro Manila is submerged and I was caught flat footed (never expected that our area will be flooded), for 3 days we waited for the flood to subside (rationing our stocks of Ramen) fortunately our house is a 2 story with an attic and looking down from my window it pains me to see both of my vehicle under the water.

And @B.I.B. you fly a copter in which part of NZ? I had my first experience in Queenstown flying to MT Aspiring with my group.

A video interview to watch. Sandy Munro is the father of the Lean Design methodology.

I think the US will easily find a way to prevent Chinese EVs from getting to the US just like they prevent Chinese smartphones from getting a chance before the chip ban. I think Chinese car companies better not have goals of selling in the US. They're probably doomed to fail. If it happens they just see it as a bonus. I can see why Jack Ma probably is having his troubles. He was probably getting into things where the West led by the US can easily cut him off and thus damaging China.

Then they should kick out Tesla and GM from China.
