9 passengers with 4 crew. Don't know why it doesn't add up to 14
Still 13. Then the extra 1 is ? Likely a miscount. The matter may be settled, all have perished in this accident.

Just noticed that a week ago a Azerbaijani Mi17 crashed taking 14 lives. The dead included a colonel, a lieutenant colonel, five majors, four captains, a senior lieutenant, and a lieutenant. It's deja vu.

What B.S. Blaming faulty maintenance on insurgent missiles. Seriously? What's next, China supplied FN-6 to Tamil insurgents?
I am going with the conspiracy route. Someone wanted him out for his resistance towards the Air Force in the ongoing reforms

My key question, who was responsible for maintenance and for flying the helicopter? The Army or the Air Force?

Army most likely.

Whaa??
The plot thickens like someone spilled too much oats into the milk.
Man portable in South India? @Deino Are you sure you have linked a reliable/objective twitter handle? Seems like Pakistan focused handle and therefore the story of MANPAD must be taken with caution.

I'd be quite surprised if it's insurgent/ rebel activities. No region in India seem spared from it.
