I hate for this to devolve into a political argument, but the Taiwanese also get a good laugh from videos of how your government operates. Like this one:

I personally find both videos hilarious political theater.
Lmao it is actually like that. But honestly I am not sure that is worse, the CCP parliament, or the RoC legislative Yuan where our politicians come in throwing pig guts at each other and have massive brawls. The Pan Blues usually wins the actual brawls, but Green side wins the ensuing media flame war.

How was that even comparable to people throwing literal pig guts at each other, the hell?

Don't know, don't care, I'm just looking for some laughs before I die in a hale of PLARF missiles lol. Don't care if it's the the DPP, KMT or CCP, all contributions are welcome

It's two different types of humor. Pig guts or Legislative Yuan stuff in general has more of a circus-y, comedic feel, where creativity of the politicians plus some physicality is most important. Think WWE where everything is scripted, but with less script, less violence, less creativity and more politics.

for your enjoyment. Whereas the CCP one is more of a black humor feel plus the absurdism of there being literally no disagreement. But anyway, both are great fun and I really think we should avoid going deeper into this discussion. It is a 'defence' forum after all.

I am not just referring to the military exercises - they will be over soon - who cares.
The mainland's military exercises will cease when PRC finally takes over ROC.

I am talking about this multi-year standoff between the mainland and Taiwan that will inevitably follow, and having everyone live in fear and anxiety.
So you admit that at least the Taiwanese will live in fear and anxiety. In my opinion, it's their fault. If they continue to poke the mainland, they are welcome to have nervous breakdowns over the mainland's devastating answers.

And the average mainlander will likely barely notice what is going on. I seriously doubt that "everyone" will live in fear and anxiety -- only the Taiwanese will do so.

It is also politically costly for the PRC, because the Taiwan issue is just constantly occupying its military and diplomatic attention.
Not at all. Taiwan's occasional tantrums are quite beneficial to Beijing, as they make great excuses for the mainland to ramp up its military power for the real enemy, the USA.

But to me, the longer this standoff drags out, the worse off everyone is.
You mean the worse off Taiwan will be. The mainland must prepare for the USA in any case, Taiwan or no Taiwan, and is quite happy that Taiwan continues to motivate the preparation.

They do? I wonder how much laugh they would get knowing government of world's biggest democracy operates in parliament by watching p-rns :rolleyes:

Translation please

Which part?

The woman says: "The Assembly requests the party to unify thought and action using 'Xi Jinping New-era Socialism with Chinese characteristics'".

Xi says: "Those who agree raise your hands."

<hands are raised>

Then he says:"Those who don't agree raise your hands."

Various people who are probably counting the votes say "mei you", which means "no", or in this context, "no hands are raised".

Xi says "mei you. tong guo!" Which means, "no one disagrees, passed!"

Clapping ensues.

They do? I wonder how much laugh they would get knowing government of world's biggest democracy operates in parliament by watching p-rns :rolleyes:

I must have missed that, send it over. I think it would be way less funnier than pig guts tho.

People who are used to brawls must find consensus really strange.

Indeed, I fully agree on this. That sort of unified consensus is really foreign to the Taiwanese, especially younger ones like me. We grew up on fistfighting in the Legislative Yuan, lol.
