I mean, I get your point, but it's only dark humor if you ignore the fact that all important decision-making and deliberation has already taken place behind the scenes and this 'vote' is merely a formality.

The CPC wants to project an image of unity, strength, confidence and competence to its domestic audience. Part of that means keeping politics out of the public eye.
It's not a vote but some sort of rally on a statement they already passed before. Votes aren't done in ways as informal as raising hands.

The new spin from the Pelosi camp is that China was going to do "this" any way. It means she and her people didn't see this reaction coming or why try to spin it that this was going to happen no matter what so she didn't instigate it. It's called regret. They're saying Pelosi's camp put it out there saying if Biden told her not to go, she would've not went. And Biden didn't tell her not to go because he didn't want to look weak on China. Both essentially were throwing each other under the bus for domestic politics hence why the mix messages the public heard.

I'm watching Fareed Zakaria's show and he has Susan Shirk another self-proclaimed China expert and she's doing what the US does which is every time the US and the West are going through their own problems in order to get their own people distracted, they make it other countries are going through it worse because how else are they going to make their people think they've managed their problems better showing how superior their system is so don't change it. During her comments on China, Shirk says Xi Jinping "probably" put on a military uniform directing these latest military drills. "Probably?" The point was to make it that Xi thinks like a child and wasn't leader material. The US has to portray it that this is all happening because Xi is trying cover up his horrible domestic policy failures. You mean like how the US does it. And then the contradiction comparing the drills over 20 years ago where Bill Clinton sent an aircraft carrier through the strait in response. They say back then China was weak. Today China is strong. So how is it they claim Xi Jinping has been a failure for China and all of this is about Xi covering up his mistakes? China has become an innovation giant under Xi while before China was taunted as only being about copying. They point to the coronavirus. If Xi is so desperate to repair the damage COVID-19 has done, why still a zero-tolerance policy? Shouldn't Xi just drop it so the economy can make money like the West has done because they think only about money and not the health of their own citizens. And then they talk about the failure of China's one country, two systems pointing to Hong Kong like the West didn't work to have that fail so they can point to it as a failure...
