“Xi has repeatedly said that force will be used against Taiwanese separatists/independence activists.”

Everything Xi said in the quotes you cited were couched in conditionals. You presented his position as categorical.

Well, okay, I apologize for that. But in my reading, a veiled threat is still a threat. If someone says "I won't give up my gun because there are robbers", it's functionally the same as "Someone who breaks in is going to be shot"(to me). I see your point though, and I'll attempt to be more precise in the future.

There is a world of difference between “I’m out to get you” and “I’m willing to fight if you cross my lines”.

Oh, great haha. It's the one page that I had tried to view (one of the first ones) but had this error pop up:

Talk about bad luck, geez.

Well, regardless, thank you very much for confirming where it was from!

Here's the original poll if you're interested. It's definitely not a representative sample, but it's interesting nonetheless.

Reuters news agency reported that Ou Yang, deputy head of the Chung Shan Institute of Science and Technology, a subsidiary of Taiwan's Ministry of Defense, was found dead on Saturday morning in a hotel room in Pingtung County.

According to the preliminary version, he died due to a heart attack as he suffered from a heart disease. No sign of outside interference was found in the hotel room. Even so, the investigation continues.

Ou Yang was on a business trip to Pingtung to directly observe the missile test at the Jiupeng military base, the first phase of which began on Aug. 3. The second and third stages will be held on August 18 and 26, respectively.

Ou Yang, in his position, oversaw the process of creating various types of missile weapons. Currently, in the context of escalating relations with China, the Chung Shan Institute of Science and Technology is actively working to increase its production capacity to 500 missiles a year.

Despite the seemingly obvious cause of death for a person suffering from heart disease, police continued to investigate. The death of such a prominent person in the island's defense industry in the face of the threat of a military confrontation with China raises fair doubts.

There is a chance that the Chinese side will eliminate high-ranking representatives of the Taiwan authorities, although it is low. The same Israel regularly carries out the physical elimination of Iranian scientists associated with nuclear or missile programs. And it happened almost immediately after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's visit to Taipei.

At the same time, even with Ou Yang's natural death, the very fact of losing the person essentially responsible for carrying out scientific research and missile weapons development during the forced preparation for the defense of the island in connection with a possible PLA operation .

Taiwan media: The Chinese flag was planted on the websites of several local government agencies in Taiwan amid a live-fire exercise by the PLA.

The Kaohsiung government website was covered with the Chinese flag for more than 10 hours from Friday to Saturday.

The Taiwan Ministry of Foreign Affairs website was down for several hours on August 2, 4 and 5. Of course, as usual, the Taiwanese couldn't help but include Russia here. It is claimed that there were 17 million access attempts per minute from various Chinese and Russian IP addresses.

As a result, central government agencies were ordered to remain on high alert regarding China's cyber activities on the Internet.

In this way, Beijing demonstrated to Taiwan its ability to wage war in cyberspace. In the case of actual hostilities, we think the consequences will be much greater.

The Chinese Defense Ministry said it was carrying out military exercises as planned and "testing the possibilities" of land and naval attacks;

China has announced its intention to regularly conduct exercises east of the conditional median dividing line in the Taiwan Strait.

This statement came out almost simultaneously with the one made by Taiwan. The island said its armed forces would conduct live artillery exercises in southern Pingtung County on August 9 and 11.

Following the results of three days from August 4th to 6th this year. The PLA showed as part of the exercise how it would conduct military operations against Taiwan in the event of an escalation of the conflict. According to our observations, as expected:

1. Missile troops were the first to work on targets around Taiwan. Missile attacks on key strategic targets and decision-making centers were simulated (4 August).

2. Combat aviation ranked second. Massive missile air strikes were carried out on designated targets in Taiwan (conditionally), air superiority was gained (August 5).

3. PLA naval forces entered the battle in third place. Patrols of the Taiwan Strait and the surrounding water area were organized. The routes and ways of approaching the enemy forces (USA) to the island are blocked. Missile firing was carried out from ships and, estimated, from a submarine (6 August).

On August 7, the PLA continued its exercise.

Regarding the large Chinese military vehicles transported by rail a few days ago, I think the closest way is the DF-16 spare ammunition carrier. Is this the only vehicle that uses the same 5-axle bodywork as the DF-16 TEL, and has the same shape as the driver's seat and around the tire casing?

There is also a separate vehicle that locks and loads missiles. The cranes are installed before and after the missile containment cylinder, the body has 6 axles and the cabin has a short cabin format. A video of this vehicle moving at night is used in the newspaper's August 4 broadcast.

Foreign visits to Taiwan irritate Beijing

In the context of Nancy Pelosi's recent trip, like a snap of the fingers, foreign delegations rushed to the island with a "gesture of goodwill" - first Lithuanian and now Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.

The message of these visits is to demonstrate to Taiwan's leadership the supposed support of the "democratic community" against the backdrop of China's pressure on Taiwan, including during the PLA's ongoing exercises in the Taiwan Strait. In fact, these are just cheap public relations actions and big words and statements designed to provoke Beijing even more.

Thus, a delegation led by the Prime Minister of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines Ralph Gonsalves arrived in Taiwan on 7 August. The visit will be on the 12th of August.

Gonsalves had already made an impassioned speech:

I am happy to visit Taiwan under "special" circumstances, as Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and Taiwan share a "family relationship";

“we find the threats unacceptable; threats of violence, threats of aggression, which, by their very nature, destabilize East Asia and, beyond that, the entire world.” Our country has clearly expressed its position: “We especially don't like it when big and powerful countries threaten smaller ones”;

Referring to Saint Vincent and the Grenadines' relationship with China, Gonçalves added: “We didn't create the conditions for our relationship; they insisted that if we want to establish diplomatic relations with them, we must sever all relations with Taiwan. We cannot leave our friends. We do not accept that any country can impose preconditions on us as a basis for our relations with them”;

I am in Taiwan to show solidarity with the Taiwanese government and people who have been friends for 42 years;

Saint Vincent and the Grenadines has no intention of being China's enemy. The visit does not prevent the country from communicating "respectfully" with China;

The question of whether US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi should visit Taiwan is a matter between her and Taiwan, not an occasion for military exercises;

Looking forward to meeting President Tsai Ing-wen, playing karaoke with Taiwanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs Joseph Wu, and celebrating my birthday and Father's Day in Taiwan.

Germany must prepare for disagreements with China - even at the expense of its prosperity (c) Der Spiegel

Berlin has long relied on globalization and has strengthened economic cooperation with Beijing, but that era is coming to an end. Now Germany needs to free itself from its dependence on China - even if it costs its well-being, it will be difficult, expensive and inconvenient for German business and politics.

I even rubbed my eyes when I read it. But no, that's right. Germany is determined to spit on China at the behest of the United States. The Soros foundations simply created a new generation of European politicians and placed people in key positions. Now there are no cheap energy resources from Russia, no contractors from China.

Watching the people who are in charge of running your country throw items of furniture at each other on live tv must inspire a lot of confidence.

Compare and contrast. This is how a real government operates.

I hate for this to devolve into a political argument, but the Taiwanese also get a good laugh from videos of how your government operates. Like this one:

I personally find both videos hilarious political theater.
