The article says Pompeo was looking to piss-off the Chinese with a change of Taiwan's sovereignty status. It doesn't surprise me because that has always been the ultimate goal of the more hawkish Republican pro-Taiwan faction that's been around since Nixon opened relations with China. It was Pompeo more than Trump. Trump is clueless and after he lost the election he basically gave Pompeo the green light to do anything he wanted short of war. If they thought China was just going to stand-by and do nothing, that just shows even Pompeo who is more educated than Trump is really that stupid over what he believed. The US was less than 24 hours from war. Just imagine if it wasn't for someone in the US military brass with some common sense to tell Pompeo things are looking bad, the US would've found themselves in a war they weren't planning. That's how wildly dangerous the US risks the world. I'm wondering will the mainstream Western media even discuss this? Or will they cover it up because it shows how arrogant and irresponsible the US is in the world?

On the flip side, this should be a lesson to China when they do nothing or wait a year to respond to US actions, they think China will do nothing and believe they can do anything without any resistance from China.
Thanks, interesting

I haven't heard pompeo for long time now, no more $, perhaps

Pompeo has political ambitions so will be around. He just hasn't decided which Republican coattails to hang on to.
My worry is that when biden becomes incapacitated due to dementia and kamala takes over
Being a woman and asian at the same time won't go well with maga people and republicans
Thus a landslide 2025 pompeo or cotton is possible

We will see what happens in the Alaska meeting next week. Ideally the meeting should produce a framework so that diplomats from each side can form working groups with each other to cover specific areas of managing the relationship of US-China

The US has a culture of needing to be in control of everything. That wouldn't satisfy the US. If there's something out there they know of that they don't control, it represents a threat to them therefore they need to be in control of it and if they can't, they have to destroy it. That's the only difference from what they accuse of China wanting to take over the world. They think their reason is legitimate.
Oddly, that's what they accuse China of, being megalomaniacal, authoritarian control freaks.
