That's such a blatant breach of diplomatic protocol, it's effectively a declaration of war, but then and again anglo americans believe they need a war to prevent themselves from descending into civil war.

If they do that, it would be tantamount to destroying any illusion of diplomatic immunity. If they do that, most other countries will pull out their diplomats if they are arrested on a whim.

I'm not super optimistic for a major breakthrough, but the fact at the very least both sides are talking to each other is a noticeable improvement from the last year of the Trump Adminstration
TBH, thats more likely than not. The US has done far worst in the past.

I'm not saying anything can be done about it except for delusional Chinese who think they can somehow charm and reason with the US. Are two supply chains acceptable to the Americans?
If not, like you indicated, then how can they prevent that alternate supply chain from forming?
The first strike is the only creditable strategy here. Of course, China would just launch themselves, fulfilling American dreams of Armageddon. I do not believe that this will happen.
Everyone take a chill pill, y'all been reading too much Tom Clancy - Wang Yi met with Pompeo in Hawaii last summer when I'd argue Sino-American relations were even more intense than they currently are, and Wang Yi came back to Beijing in one piece without being detained by TSA or Homeland Security... all be it little to no progress was made to ease tensions after the meeting.
The fact is that Beijing and the Biden Administration have admitted to wanting to improve relations, and such a high level face-to-face meeting shows that talk on both sides isn't just all fluff. We may not agree with many things, but the most important thing in diplomacy is that we keep the dialogue going in hopes of reaching concessions and hopefully a common understanding. I admit the whole thing seems like a waste of time and I don't expect to get anything out of Blinken the warmonger, but the only way to prevent a Cold War from going Hot is if we keep talking to each other.

The Americans wouldn't be that reckless to be arresting China's most premier diplomats because that means WAR no two ways about it.
It's one thing for the Americans to instigate the arrest of Huawei senior employee and it's on a whole different universe when the people in question are members of China's top leadership cadre. The Democrats aren't this clueless and dumb.
