  • China’s National Bureau of Statistics announces release date after a month of conjecture
  • Results are expected to influence China’s key policies and attitudes on economic development, jobs, investment, retirement and social welfare
We will soon find out if the FT article was correct. Lets see how the Chinese officials react, we might see a barrage of policies after the Census data reveal on Tuesday

Wait, what? I still think China needs to move to a pronatalist policy (24% birth decline in Beijing is alarming) but this is genuine good news, provided there is no statistical fuckery going on (the latter remains to be seen).

The biggest killer to birthrate is female education and urbanisation. Such is life, you win some you lose some.

China’s fertility rate was 1.3 children per woman, which is below the replacement level of 2.1
However, the share of the population soon to be or already at working age declined. There were 894.38 million people in the age group between 15 and 59, 63.35 per cent of the population,
down 6.79 percentage points from the previous census in 2010.
I dont know about you, but to me this is "very deep concern" level
