Unfortunately, yes. This was China's first flop. We underestimated the Filipino, whom was trained in China, actually. Liao Qiuyun is the world record holder in the clean and jerk but did not go pedal to the metal this time. Her score is nothing strange at all; a few kg difference between competitions is absolutely normal and to be expected. She shouldn't be expected to match or break her world record every time. We did not think the Filipino girl could lift like that because she never has before. Coming into this comp, everyone believed that Liao would lift virtually unopposed. When I saw this morning that China's gold tally did not grow, I assumed that Liao had bombed, as I believed that she would win if she registered any normal lifts; I was shocked to see that she was beaten instead. This is a real shame because not only could she have won, she could have given her spot to someone else (Zhang Wangli 76kg) to win. So many weightlifting champs were left back due to the quota that if anyone doesn't come home with gold, s/he will get a soul-scarring stink-eye from his/her teammates LOL
Something I didn't know before (but had a feeling was probably true) is that this is the Philippines' first gold medal ever in weightlifting.
