China is in real danger of finishing behind US, Britain and Japan in the gold medal tally. So many missed gold medals where they should have won.

It definitely is a bad day for China. However, this is Olympic; it is expected that you would have some good days and some bad days. Remember China only got 5 gold medals for the weightlifting in Rio and 7 gold medals for diving.

I think that China is way past the point where Olympic medals are the end all in terms of national pride. My take since 2008 has always been if they can win, that's great, but they shouldn't be admonished for losing.

Can't win all the time. That said, it was a brilliant performance from the boys in the men's team gymnastics. Aside from the unfortunate fall, they were right in it till the end. The Russians and Japanese too put in awesome performance, especially the Russians, this is what the Olympics is all about! While not headline grabbing as gold medals, the fact that China has so many athletes in most of the event with a chance of medaling is great to see and more demonstrative of comprehensive national strength than relying on a few once in a generation athletes to rack the the medal counts. There is pretty much nothing to prove no more for China since She is in the top echelon where she belong, should just savor the victories for the individuals and teams that put in all the effort to get there, be it gold or personal bests.

Officially acc to IOC rules who finishes first? The one with the most overall medals or the one with most Golds?

Wow OK yeah men's team gymnastics can be considered slightly choking although credit to the Russians they were good. China did so well in qualifications though so it's a disappointment to not perform as well in the final.

It's the blue ribbon event in gymnastics was really hoping to see them win.

the mixed table tennis looks like it's not going well too.
