Yup, second gold has been got. Hou Zhihui was supposed to go to Rio but due to last minute injury, was subbed out for super heavy Meng Suping (who managed to win the gold despite having stopped training since she thought didn't make the Olympic team, leaving a very cute and angry chubby North Korean whose expression was good enough for a meme). Her main opponent was an Indian who holds the current clean and jerk world record, which is an incredibly rare occurance; as a matter of fact, I think the first in history. Hou did not perform as she has hoped because she found she was still slightly overweight at the time of weigh in and had to jog to sweat it off causing her to be slightly tired and out of form. She did not challenge any of the three world records (the snatch and total, which are hers) but won handily anyway opening a 7kg lead in the snatch over the Indian and then finishing her off with another kg in the clean and jerk. That Indian, by the way, looks like an East/Southeast Asian.

That was some crazy ass shit. Yang was down 0.7 points to the Russian coming into the last shot. That's almost impossible to make up since they'd both been shooting 10.3-10.7 (max 11) the whole time but the Russian totally botched it and made an 8.9 on her last shot. Yang was nervous too and scored only a 9.8 on her last shot but the Russian's mistake was big enough to land Yang the gold. I would say very clutch, but it's mostly the Russian's fault. Reminds me of one time in maybe the London games where an American shooter was sure to win the gold with a massive lead but then hit a 4 on his last shot and totally lost it.

Excuse my ignorance but why did China do so poorly in mixed archery? They pulled out and replaced athletes but I’m currently too busy to dive into why. Nothing comes up in a quick search.

@manqiangrexue yeah Shi ZhiYong AHHH!!!!!! Wocao...lol the best weightlifter ever in the world!
Shi's battle won't be too exciting. He's contending for his second Olympic gold but unless he bombs out from his own mistakes (which has never happened before), he won't have a challenger because everyone else is just too far off.

As far as best ever, it's a pretty rough call. He's certainly dominant in his weight class but Lasha is just as dominant, and as a super heavy, has lifted the world's highest total ever. However, Lasha, a Georgian, has been found guilty of PED use before and is on his last lifeline with several accusations that his team is paying the testers to skip him while Shi is the most tested weightlifter today, with WADA testing him on a weekly basis. Lu Xiaojun is 37, holds 2/3 world records in his class, won the last (2019) world champs with a clean and jerk world record after sustaining a back injury in competition (a breathtaking and awe-inspiring competition that led the American commentators gasping in shock; I urge you to look up "2019 World Weightlifting Championships 81kg" on YouTube), is in Tokyo for his 3rd Olympic gold, and has come up clean on every drug test including the one that the US sprang on him after inviting him for a seminar.

People who hate China will say Lasha's the best, because he is the only light in weightlifting for Caucasians, but China undoubtably makes the most champions and puts forth the greatest number of weightlifitng athletes who can contend for the greatest ever.

Hou Zhihui (featherweight) was supposed to go to Rio but due to last minute injury, was subbed out for super heavy Meng Suping (who managed to win the gold despite having stopped training since she thought didn't make the Olympic team, leaving a very cute and disappointed chubby North Korean whose facial expression was good enough for a meme). The US had a chance to win a bronze medal today, but bombed the clean and jerk failing all 3 attempts cus her coach opened her on too high a number. The bronze went to Indonesia, to a lady so thin and delicate-looking you can't believe she's a weightlifter.

By the way, China is the most dominant country in weightlifting by far and expected to win 8 golds, 1 for every entry up to the maximum allowed. In world weightlifting competitions, China can win 10/14 gold medals leaving scraps to the rest of the world, so regarding that "who says Asians aren't strong?" comment, the answer is no one who watches weightlifting. The most exciting competition will be the men's 81kg where 37 year old Lu Xiaojun, current world record holder in the snatch and clean and jerk, will contend for his third Olympic gold medal. His second gold will be retrospectively rewarded from Rio, where the Kazakh who "beat" him was found guilty of urine substitution on his drug test. Anyway, any questions on weightlifting, just ask me.

You know your weightlifting stuff bro. I happen to watch the final of meng's on YT few days ago. Yeah the north Korean lady facial expression was very unexpected to say the least. Mixture of wtf, displeasure, surprise and annoyance. I could not figure it out as the comments under the video didn't really explain why too.

Yeah the Indian lady who got silver just now definitely has fair skin and look more Thai/ south east Asian.

What happen to the American girl de La Cruz. There was some controversy about a challenge

The North Korean weightlifter doubtlessly hates China so much because she is perpetual silver to multiple different Chinese lifters. She was going to win Olympic gold unchallenged, then Hou dropped, Meng went in and just like that, she's silver. Meng was badly out of form; she is capable of a 195 world record clean and jerk but because she had stopped training, struggled so hard to make that 177 that she fell to the floor on her knees in relief, kowtowing in all directions when she did. Interestingly, the North Korean weightlifter is named Kuk hyang, which translates to "aromatic pot" for the chubby lady.

There is no controversy to De la Cruz's disqualification on her last snatch. Her left elbow bent and it was ruled a press out but her coaches challenged because they were on her right side so they saw nothing wrong with it. By the way, that bald coach is Pyrros Dimas, Greek 3 time Olympic Champion, 1 time bronze medalist. He is a legend in weightlifting but he was lucky as he won one gold medal with a score so low a lifter in a lighter weight class could have lifted it and basically only made 1 world record in 4 Olympics.

@manqiangrexue bro of the Chinese weightlifting team Tian Tao is the most inconsistent watching him always give me a heart attack always at the last minute were he will performed a miracle...LOL Shi Zhiyong I remember in the 2019 world championship all the other contestant had finished their lift at 158kg while he started his at 160kg truly an amazing athlete....hahaha , I never see such dominance in that sport.

Liu Xiao Jun the squat lifter, yup at his age still dominant, his replacement is good to Li DaYin, their supreme physical stature sometimes led me to question my owned sexuality...hahahha.
