2020/2021 Tokyo Summer Olympics

The North Korean weightlifter doubtlessly hates China so much because she is perpetual silver to multiple different Chinese lifters. She was going to win Olympic gold unchallenged, then Hou dropped, Meng went in and just like that, she's silver. Meng was badly out of form; she is capable of a 195 world record clean and jerk but because she had stopped training, struggled so hard to make that 177 that she fell to the floor on her knees in relief, kowtowing in all directions when she did. Interestingly, the North Korean weightlifter is named Kuk hyang, which translates to "aromatic pot" for the chubby lady.

There is no controversy to De la Cruz's disqualification on her last snatch. Her left elbow bent and it was ruled a press out but her coaches challenged because they were on her right side so they saw nothing wrong with it. By the way, that bald coach is Pyrros Dimas, Greek 3 time Olympic Champion, 1 time bronze medalist. He is a legend in weightlifting but he was lucky as he won one gold medal with a score so low a lifter in a lighter weight class could have lifted it and basically only made 1 world record in 4 Olympics.
Thanks, Interesting info. I don't follow weightlifting at all but weightlifting competition is always so fun and adrenalin charged. Instant results and very emotional just like that young Dutch lady just now. Of course there alot of hard work training behind the scenes before all this.

When you mention Meng thinking she wasn't going to Olympics, is it because there is a limit how many weightlifters a country can bring? China is so dominant here I guess they have to make up rules to stop the Chinese if others can't compete well.

@manqiangrexue bro of the Chinese weightlifting team Tian Tao is the most inconsistent watching him always give me a heart attack always at the last minute were he will performed a miracle...LOL Shi Zhiyong I remember in the 2019 world championship all the other contestant had finished their lift at 158kg while he started his at 160kg truly an amazing athlete....hahaha , I never see such dominance in that sport.
Tian Tao is too inconsistent so even though he won the last World Championship and holds the current clean and jerk world record, he was not selected to go to Tokyo. Sadly, we will not see him in 96 and Elbakh will win unopposed. I don't know if you said that because you've heard of it but Tian Tao's nickname is the Heart Attack... that and also ThiccTao LOL

Anyway, Shi is dominant, but like I said, Lasha is as well, snatching 220kg when very very few can even touch 210.

Yes, but to be fair, the quota is made in nearly all sports to prevent domination by any one country as that would take away from the "internationality" of a sport. For example, Korea has quotas to prevent it from taking all the Taekwondo golds, although the recent switch to electronic sensor judging has destroyed their dominance as well. In weightlifting, no country may bring more than 4 men, 4 women, a quota that is reduced if there are any doping violations (and no country other than China has more than 1 gold medal contender). Because of this, China had to cut the men's 96kg champion, the men's 109kg snatch world record holder, the women's 64kg, 76kg, and 87kg champions. Otherwise, China would probably take 10-11 out of 14 golds. Because of this incredibly difficult selection process, the saying in China's weightlifting team goes, "It's harder to go to the Olympics than to win the Olympics."

My reaction after watching this...

I didn't watch any of the opening ceremony, and I was sent that first gif earlier today by a friend... I legitimately thought it was a scene from a sci fi horror film, like event horizon or something.

I didn't expect them to go so avant garde.

Liu Xiao Jun the squat lifter, yup at his age still dominant, his replacement is good to Li DaYin, their supreme physical stature sometimes led me to question my owned sexuality...hahahha.

Actually brother, your comments remind me of President Rodrigo Duterte.

It is not strictly opening ceremony but a “cultural display” aired online before the Olympics. Why they picked this instead of legitimate Japanese culture like Kabuki or even Anime is legit beyond me.

You know your weightlifting stuff bro. I happen to watch the final of meng's on YT few days ago. Yeah the north Korean lady facial expression was very unexpected to say the least. Mixture of wtf, displeasure, surprise and annoyance. I could not figure it out as the comments under the video didn't really explain why too.

Yeah the Indian lady who got silver just now definitely has fair skin and look more Thai/ south east Asian.

What happen to the American girl de La Cruz. There was some controversy about a challenge

Anyone got any footage of that Korean woman's face. Love to see what @manqiangrexue is on about.

This "quotas" is a bit unfair. It's like the table tennis and badminton where they changed it so China won't get as much medals as before the change. Yet the sprints etc you can literally have a 1, 2 and 3 for the USA.
