054/A FFG Thread II

Note: FFG-553 Dali is the last third member of the 054A-class FFG.


Also, FFG-554 Yuxi (the last member of the 054A-class FFG) got her pennant number painted on her bow in June this year.

Do we know whether the previous 30x 054A FFGs will be retrofitted with ASEA radar systems (like those on the final 10x 054A (or 054AG) FFGs) in place of the older ones currently installed on them?

PLAN's only two Type 054 frigates (post upgrade) in the same image.

The 054 FFGs never had any VLS in the first place. The HHQ-10 is actually replacing the original HHQ-7 located in front of the bridge.

Duh! Got my wires crossed between 054 and 054A.
PLAN should just decomm the 054s or give it to the CG to be honest especially now with 054Bs coming online.

TBF, while the 054s are only capable of self-defense with their HHQ-10s and AK-630s (hence requiring them to be closely attached to major surface combatants of the PLAN with certain levels of/substantial levels of fleet-defense capabilities i.e. 054As, 054Bs, 052Cs, 052Ds and 055s for greater degree of protection), they can still perform their primary duties (ASW) on the high seas quite well, especially after they underwent their MLU in recent years.

Therefore, I do believe that the duo can still serve with the PLAN for quite a while.

Both 054 are with the ESF, and they can conceivably still have a good role as corvette leaders (incl for the few remaining older 053 series FFG). Their helo deck & hangar would also seem to be useful in that regard.
