Speak of the devil ... I read an article about all of this stuff recently.

It was not for everybody, but it can be illuminating, and it has a couple of moments to it.

At the end, when it is all said and done, they will find someone to blame, the Chinese.

It speaks volumes about the modern PRC's info-war efforts that a random Chinese-Canadian marijuana addict has done more to undermine faith in conventional and official western narratives than all the Chinese state media outlets, propaganda ministry, and various soft power clown shows like the United Front put together.

True and the guy obviously doesn't mean to. He's probably genuinely apolitical. Just after that moolah.

Do you even work in the IT industry? If Parler owns its own servers, you don’t think they will be disconnected by its ISP? Even if they can find a small ISP willing to service it, the backbone companies will kick out the small ISP.
Yes, if you kept your servers in-house, they could be disconnected by your ISP. However, the cloud service could also be disconnected by its ISP, so the risks on that score are about even. You have not given a good reason to use cloud services. I have pointed to parler.com's near death experience as a damned good reason to avoid the cloud.

i just pointed out your Parler example is not a good metric on cloud services.

here is another example roadblock for any rogue websites regardless whether it is using the cloud or not.

The last of the series It talk about basic science and research like Neutrino research, building Synchrotron and radio telescope in Guizhou
On September 15th, 2017, 72-year-old astronomer and engineer Nan Rendong sadly passed away. But 25 days later, happier news was announced: the Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical Telescope on Pingtang Mountain in Guizhou Province, Nan’s brainchild, had detected 2 pulsars. At last, 23 years of effort had finally paid off, and the career of one of China’s top scientific brains was crowned with another groundbreaking discovery.

Parler.com nearly died because it outsourced its whole IT operation to the cloud. You say that a near-death expericence is "not a good metric"? Do you want the Mainland Chinese companies to copy Parler's stupid action?

Parler had good reason to be shut down. In China, a site like Parler would be shut down directly by the Chinese government regardless of whether IT operations were on premise or managed by a cloud provider. If anything, the Parler example outlines the importance for China to rely on domestic cloud providers, as relying on US based cloud providers would allow the US government to hold any such Chinese company hostage. How do you think TikTok would have fared if it was hosted on AWS or Azure?

Parler was a fascist infested shit hole that normal people didn't use, and I don't understand why some user here is using it as an example of some big "company" or "social media platform".

Exactly, I really don't understand what the other user is trying to imply. Parler didn't failed because the cloud itself, but because it was hosted on Amazon, and Amazon (just like any other American company) ultimately responds to the US government and elites (which wanted Parler to by shut down).
