The Chinese drone company DJI has gained market dominance by selling professional and recreational drone in the US market that uses a VR headset to aim the camera on the drones since 2016. The recreational drones and VR helmet cost less than $1500. I am surprised it has taken this long for the technology to filter into the military.

Just what are you talking about? Slaving sensors and gun turrets to HMDs is nothing new for attack helicopters. It's been around for decades, loooong before the rise of consumer VR headsets.
