Interesting piece of the article is that 30 of these 20mm cannons will be exported next year. Someone questioned a defense journalist on

whether this means that the 30 T129 ATAK helicopters are going to be exported to Pakistan and he basically said yes:

- "Mr. İbrahim, I would like to ask one more question with your permission. Minister Varank visited TRMekatronik and Sarsılmaz today. The following statement of Latif Ariş caught my attention. Do you think we can say that the way for ATAK exports to Pakistan has been cleared?"

"Yes, Mr. Latif ALIS indicates with this statement that the green light has been given for the sale of 30 helicopters."

- "Thanks. I don't know about you, but this is the first time I've heard of such news. I hope it's real."

"There was going to be a meeting in Antalya today or tomorrow, I think an explanation will be made on this issue."

And again, time will tell and perhaps we'll hear more of it tomorrow.

SSB director Ismail Demir made some statements at the 'Global Strategies Conference in the Defense and Aerospace Industry '21'

  • Defense exports are $2.8 billion for the first 11 months of this year, expected to end this year with more than $3 billion export. Up by 41% compared to last year (and 14% up compared to 2019)
  • TCG Anadolu to be used in its original role and eventually the TB3 will be integrated.
  • Because of the pandemic, work slowed down on the Korean side on the procurement of a powerpack for the Altay tank. Things are now in motion and waiting for the low-level discussions to end. Face-to-face meetings are to be held in February.
  • UTKU powerpack continues testing in an integrated manner, meaning both engine and transmission together working on a testbed.
  • BATU transmission reached integration stage and in 2 months, engine and the (2nd) transmission (the 1st transmission is currently "working") will be integrated.
  • So far no problems in engine supply for the Hurjet and TF-X/MMU.
  • About the indigenous engine for the TF-X: "The Call for Proposals Document (TÇD) we have published is actually a study that includes the domestic engine in Turkey. Of course, this Call for Proposals Document is a little different from the classical RFDs. This TÇD was published to potential players in Turkey's national jet engine journey, and they should come together to reconsider this offer, create a roadmap for domestic engine production, and walk hand in hand on a roadmap where all existing capabilities in Turkey are on the table. aims to establish its strategy. Because Turkey does not have a very deep history in this regard, we do not have many experienced engineers and designers. That's why we don't have the luxury of dividing them into three or four parts, so we have to combine them and work them together in a coordinated manner. We have manufacturing capabilities TEI has demonstrated very important manufacturing capabilities. Further material research and manufacturing techniques are being studied, but the TÇD we mentioned is a new step in our national engine development process."

made a summary of important points:

  • All 4 engines (Azra-380hp, TTZA-600hp, UTKU-1000hp and BATU-1500hp) work. Two of them (380hp and 600hp) are in on-board testing, and the other two continue to be tested on dynamometers.
  • In fact, the engines of the Altay tank would be within TR Motor. However, when the company was a little late in the establishment and the engines of the land vehicles were distributed, only the aircraft engine remained in the hands of the company.
  • TR Motor's 2 general managers before me had serious discussions with the US (GE), British (Rolls Royce) and the French to see if we could do these (turbofan engines) things. No, the Russians were also interviewed.
  • After I became the general manager, on the one hand, the negotiations with the USA, the British, the French and the Russians continue, on the other hand, our own team is getting ready.
  • As TR Motor, we made a contract with TAI and started the "motor identification phase" study for the MMU motor. While doing this, we also cooperated with some companies in the world that will receive technical support. As a result, this phase was completed.
  • By the way, the task of the MMU (development of its engine) was NOT assigned to TR Motor. (Note: What was made public was the opposite. This is the first time this information is shared. TO)
  • Meanwhile, TAI opened the tender for the MMU auxiliary power unit (YGU, APU). Engine manufacturers from around the world also entered this tender and we got the tender. Because there is a technology transfer condition in the tender. We are currently carrying out YGU design studies.
  • TENDER was OPENED 15 DAYS AGO for the MMU engine. We are also continuing our work to bid for that tender. (Osman Bey briefly and concisely shared the point reached from the past to the present in the MMU engine.)

The guided missiles of the submarines will be tested in TÜBİTAK SAGE's DATA.

TUBITAK-SAGE-DATA-Denizalti-Test-Sahasi-3-1024x576.jpg

Submarine test firings and integration of guided missiles are carried out with the national and domestic Submarine Test Infrastructure (DATA) of TÜBİTAK SAGE.

TÜBİTAK SAGE (Defense Industry Research and Development Institute), one of the most important military research and development institutions of our country, is at the heart of critical and important defense industry projects. TÜBİTAK SAGE will offer the important stakeholders of the Turkish defense industry the opportunity to test their solutions with the DATA infrastructure it has recently acquired. With the submarine test structure built to meet different needs, another important capability has been brought to our country. With the Submarine Test Infrastructure (DATA), the firing of guided missiles that will enter the inventory will be simulated and tested. Testing and feasibility of munitions such as the underwater test setup and the Sub-Atmaca guided anti-ship missile will be carried out before they are integrated into the submarine.

With the underwater test setup that can be lowered to different depths within the scope of the Submarine Test Infrastructure, it offers the opportunity to shoot underwater up to 60 meters. A safe and controlled experimental environment is offered with numerous sensors on the test setup, which is a 21″ standard submarine case. The test rig also has the same guided missile launch system as the Gür and Preveze class submarines, and the Gürbüz fire control system.

Thanks to this system, ammunition designed for submarines will be tested under one-to-one conditions with the submarine. The DATA system is also expected to provide advantages in submarine design.

Extra points:

  • TEI has a US partner (GE). Turkey established TR Motor as a completely independent national company. BMC also exited the partnership, we are a 100% state company. We are equidistant from everyone. USA, UK, Ukraine, Russia, France... We can work with all of them.
  • We are doing well in the development project of Air Turbine Start System (HTBS, ATSS, Air Turbine Start System) and Auxiliary Power Unit (YGU, APU, Auxiliary Power Unit) for MMU.
  • Development of Auxiliary Power Unit (YGU, APU, Auxiliary Power Unit) for MMU; design, modeling, production, prototyping, testing process; It will take 6 years. This project, if we get the MMU engine, will be a preparation for us.
  • Our goals: Intellectual property rights in Turkey. To design domestically, but to use technical support providers if necessary. Not to use any export-restricted components.

Joining forces for domestic and national nanotechnological materials from Turkish scientists

turk-bilim-insanlarindan-yerli-ve-milli-nanoteknolojik-malzemeler-icin-guc-birlii.jpeg

The A1 team, which includes 20 partners under the leadership of Bilkent University National Nanotechnology Research Center (UNAM), which was established with the support of TÜBİTAK, started to work for the domestic and national development of 60 different nanotechnology-based materials, such as "national aircraft", "high quality screens", which are of critical importance for the country.

UNAM Director Prof. Dr. Hilmi Volkan Demir, speaking to Anadolu Agency (AA), stated that under the leadership of Bilkent UNAM, they are working with a fund of more than 60 million TL within the scope of the TÜBİTAK 1004-Center of Excellence Support Program, which is supported by TÜBİTAK for the purpose of acquiring critical high technologies.

Using this fund, in order to develop critical technologies for the country, under the leadership of Bilkent University UNAM, TUSAŞ, Vestel and Şişecam, which are Turkey's most important locomotive industry organizations, and Bilkent, Eskişehir Teknik, Abdullah Gül (AGU) and TOBB ETÜ universities, and a great team A1 Explaining that they established the -Platform, Demir stated that they also work in partnership with R&D sprout companies and nearly 20 stakeholder institutions in the team.

Stating that their team works in 5 branches that feed each other, namely "nanomaterials", "transparencies", "structurals", "avionics displays" and "advanced glass technologies", Demir said, "There are over 60 final, side and intermediate stages triggered by this program. The technology of the product will be developed. What is expected from here is to provide material technologies with high added value to our country. This will have different patent applications, and therefore, together with the patent portfolio, we will bring critical technologies to these companies, which are the locomotives in their own branches, to our country." said.

Demir said, "Many of the technologies gained in the TÜBİTAK 1004-Center of Excellence Support Program with the A1 team stakeholders for four years will come to life as value-added high technology products in various sectors, especially in the defense industry, durable consumer products, electronics and glass, and will make a direct contribution to the country's economy. " gave the information.

Hilmi Volkan Demir stated that the platform is expected to contribute billions of dollars to the country's economy.

- From mechanical components inside cockpits to transparent materials

Stating that the transparent structure canopies that will also be used in the national aircraft, which surround the cockpit, will be developed to give local and national features, Demir said that in the special nanocomposite material group they call "structurals", studies are carried out on different mechanical components in the cockpits, and for this, the close cooperation of TUSAŞ and UNAM. He said he was working in.

- Domestic and national production of nanocrystals has been developed

prof. Dr. Demir stated that "avionics" screens, which can mean hundreds of systems installed on aircraft for communication, navigation, monitoring and management of multiple systems and performing individual functions, are also critical for cockpits and gave the following information:

"On the way to this cutting-edge technological point, we are working to develop special display technologies of nanocrystalline color technology, which are compatible with different outputs such as small format screens, televisions, digital instrument clusters, car panels, and finally the avionics application. "We place nanocrystals. Normally, these nanocrystals are purchased from abroad. We develop nanocrystals that are compatible with display technologies as a platform. When we place the films we make from this infrastructure behind a television screen, we can offer much more vivid colors to the audience."

Pointing out that the semiconductor nanocrystals they developed for high-tech displays have reached the commercial process in cooperation with AGU and UNAM, Demir said, "We can now produce this technology on a large scale. We obtain 50 grams of nanocrystalline color converter in a liter. It can be used as a color converter in approximately 50 televisions. Thus, we can provide input for both display applications and other consumer durables applications with quantum material technologies." he said.

For the industrial application of "avionics" display technology, Assoc. Dr. Noting that the sprout company named Nanome was founded with Evren Mutlugün, Demir explained that they also established close collaborations with Vestel on this issue.

Demir also stated that the nanocrystalline color technology they developed for display applications on the platform was awarded a gold medal by the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office.

- "Creating a qualified R&D power"

prof. Dr. Hilmi Volkan Demir gave the following information about their work:

"To make Turkey competitive by producing science with high impact-value, technology with high added value and innovation at the global level by producing useful and valuable information, creating not only economic but also social benefit and qualified R&D workforce for our country, university-industry business We aim to trigger a 'snowball' effect in order to develop deep technology with the power of the union, and to develop the necessary capability for global productization that competes at the international level. We are working to bring critical material technologies in 5 different branches to Turkey within 4 years.

During the program, which will last four years, we aim to increase the technologies classified as technology readiness level 3, 4, 5 to 6, 7, 8, 9 levels and to bring these high value-added technologies to our country for domestic and national production. In addition, we aim to ensure that all institutions included in the program provide common and versatile benefits at every stage of their technological achievements in order to develop unique products in their own sectors."
