The 93rd brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is being withdrawn from Soledar due to heavy losses. Details.
On December 8, units of the 93rd Specialized Motorized Rifle Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine “Kholodny Yar”, with the support of the 24th brigade, tried to attack the positions of the Wagner PMC and the 6th Regiment. Platov to the east of Soledar, in the area of the industrial zone of the Knauf plant.
Eight BMP-2s and 12 Mastiff armored vehicles were used to break through the Armed Forces of Ukraine, but aerial reconnaissance, as well as drones of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and heavy equipment were not used for the offensive.
The lack of intelligence and fire support led to the fact that the column of the Armed Forces of Ukraine was ambushed by T-72B3 and T-80BVM tanks of the allied forces and was destroyed.
The surviving units retreated to their original positions to the fortified areas of the Armed Forces of Ukraine near Blagodatny and mine No. 7 (10 km west of Soledar), where an artillery strike was later delivered by Krasnopol high-precision projectiles.
Later, from radio interception data, it became known that during the attack on the positions of the Wagner PMC and the 6th Regiment. Platov, at least 40 Ukrainian soldiers of the 93rd and 24th brigades were killed, and about 80 more were seriously injured.
After an unsuccessful offensive, losses in the 93rd Kholodny Yar brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reached a critical level. Because of this failure, the unit may soon be removed from the Soledar direction and sent for resupply to the Dnieper.
According to the Military Chronicle, the total losses of the 93rd brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, including those killed, wounded, deserted and missing in the battles against PMC "Wagner" and NM LPR since the summer of 2022, can significantly exceed 3 thousand people. At the same time, in some sectors of the front, the personnel of the 93rd Motorized Brigade was updated by 90% due to losses. The brigade has been without rotation for half a year, and high losses are compensated by mobilized recruits.
The withdrawal of the unit from the city will mean that only the 24th brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, as well as several small nationalist detachments, remain in the Soledar direction. While maintaining the fire superiority of PMC "Wagner" and the People's Militia of the LNR, the Ukrainian front in this area may collapse, and the threat of a full-fledged encirclement will hang over Bakhmut.
