Effing good; these outright traitors decided they could pull a fast one by going ahead with the listing before the Chinese gov. and finalised cyber regulations.
Hopefully, there will be more than a few heads a-rolling from this.
There is a bloomberg report which is saying that DiDi might face an unprecedented penalty, (not only financial..)

DiDi gave literally 0 "face" to the regulator and made it look like a laughing stock when it did the IPO even when the regulators said no.

On the Bloomberg report there was also mention that a "top Party official" criticised the regulator for being too lax on its enforcement (letting DiDi proceed with its US IPO).

So, give no "face" to the regulator + finding loopholes + making the regulator look like a joke to the Party's leadership + soft "rebelling" against the State = Super mega penalty for DiDi.

Not even an Illuminati compromised billionaire like Jack Ma was this brazen or stupid

I'd put it down to white anglo american hedge funds flashed a bunch of cash to greedy DiDi execs and promised them asylum in the US to which they gladly hopped on board.

A facility in Shanghai has developed a miniaturized FEL (Free Electron Laser). Usually such devices need to be several hundred or even thousands of meters long but this one is only 12 meters long.

Chinese premier stresses advancing basic research

Noting that the technological bottleneck in many industries mainly lies in the weakness of original innovation, Li said that basic research is the cornerstone of promoting original innovation, science and technology, and industrial development.

Li called for an increased sense of urgency and said researchers should be encouraged to focus on scientific research and deepen international cooperation.

He also called for increased financial investment in basic research, the stimulation of enterprises to carry out basic research and applied basic research by means of tax incentives, and the strengthening of research on basic theoretical problems that hold back industrial development.

Therefore, when inspecting the scientific research for the prevention and control of COVID-19 in Beijing on March 2, 2020, President Xi Jinping pointed out that we should accelerate the improvement of the weak links of China’s high-end medical equipment; speed up the tackling of problems in key technologies; and break through the bottleneck of technology and equipment in order to realize the autonomous and controllable development of high-end medical equipment.

The essential features of the best strategy for the innovation and development of China’s high-end medical equipment industry were as follows: first, speeding up the construction and improvement of a technological innovation system that is enterprise-dominated, market-oriented, and involves joint industry–university research; second, a greater focus on increasing the financial support for research and development and industrialization; and third, strong government support through taxes, medical insurance, promotion of talent, and appropriate land usage.

Conclusion: Strong governmental support through taxes, medical insurance, promotion of talent, and land usage is required to ensure rapid development of the high-end medical equipment industry in China.

reported Monday.

The convergence of low-orbit broadband communication satellites and wireless networks could form a global communications network, the brief report said.

The report did not provide more details, though it is worth noting that China's first 5G satellite was successfully tested in a communications trial in February 2020.

China sent the Hongyun engineering technology verification satellite and seven satellites into space in December 2018.
The first phase of the Hongyan constellation will be operational in 2022, enabling global mobile communications, IoT, and navigation augmentation, according to previous media reports.

The second phase of the Hongyan constellation will complete construction in 2025. The system consists of hundreds of broadband communication satellites that will enable Internet access anywhere in the world.

In November 2020, China applied to the International Telecommunication Union to use the orbital and radio frequency bands of two giant satellite constellations with a total of 12,992 broadband communication satellites.

This application includes 6,080 networked satellites at 508km~600km and 6,912 networked satellites at 1,145km."

It's only seen as harder because aerospace has had heavy R&D for almost a century whereas fusion is "relatively" new and seriously underfunded in comparison. Once significant net power fusion is solved in several decades, then it will be considered "easy" in hindsight. In the meantime, I completely agree with the fission argument. China has the most diverse and developed commercial nuclear industry in the world. It's not the most advanced in everything, but in the commercial realm, it is far ahead in some of the most important tech, specifically liquid thorium nuke tech (MSR - Molten Salt Reactors). Advantages are...
  • can be closed cycle
  • FAR FAR FAR less radioactive waste than 3rd generation uranium powered reactors
  • FAR FAR FAR less dangerous than 4th gen Uranium/Plutonium breeder reactor tech
  • burns up well over 99% of the Thorium fuel
    • over ~80% of the nuclear waste are fission products that decay almost completely within 20 years
    • remaining ~20% are all actinides that decay to background radiation level within 300 years, not thousands
  • passively shutdown
  • operate at near atmospheric pressure
  • meltdown proof
  • can be FAR MORE price competitive than coal
  • could be bombed and destroy the containment and it would still passively shutdown
  • Thorium is major by-product of rare earth production which is currently considered a waste by-product
    • instead of being a waste by-product, it would become basically free fuel
  • Thorium reserves enough to supply power practically forever

It is literally like the holy grail of power sources. China began heavy R&D into this back in 2015, led by Jiang Mianheng, yes that Jiang Mianheng, the son of Jiang Zemin. China accelerated R&D around 2015 when they pushed to have the first commercial reactor by the early 2030s. I encourage research into every single viable nuclear technology that exists, simply for knowledge accumulation. However, this should be the primary focus because it is the best long term solution. Once they solve the materials problem related to corrosion with these Thorium reactors, it could usher in cheap unlimited power for China and would simultaneously solve a large number of other problems such as...
  • energy independence
  • pollution (air, water, soil)
  • water shortages (economically viable desalination)
    • desertification
    • food independence

This is the single most important technology China would have. Yes, I even included desertification and food independence on my list. We are talking about energy costs that would be in the neighborhood of 1-2 cents USD$ per kWh. In other words, the power would be almost free. When you have nearly free power, anything is possible, including large scale desalination, pumping of that water over vast distances, and the associated advantages, like growing food. Although I don't think desertification is such a threat anymore since China has long reversed the desertification trend

China is nearing the completion of a 2 MW experimental reactor.

With regards to what you are saying above. All of that is true. And it goes well beyond China. It is a huge boon to the entire world. Even if there are those in China who do not care about it, but China making such progress as it has, and when it successfully commercializes it, will be doing enormous good for the entire world. Those who will be extremely disappointed are those extreme capitalists who rely on or have a mindset that only great scarcity of the factors and goods of production, and their means of ensuring the control over such factors and goods to as few as possible, are the only ways in which their wealth and power can be maintained.

Contemporary Amperex Technology Co Ltd, better known as CATL, unveiled on Thursday one of the world's first sodium-ion batteries, as the battery giant continues to diversify its technical routes to gain a leg up in the industry.

According to Huang Qisen, deputy dean of the CATL Research Institute, its first sodium-ion battery can reach an energy density of 160 Wh/kg, currently the highest level in the world.

It is able to charge to 80 percent at room temperature in 15 minutes, with a discharge retention rate still above 90 percent in environments with temperatures below -20°C, he said.

"Sodium-ion batteries are compatible and complementary with lithium-ion batteries. Diversified technical routes are also an important guarantee for the long-term development of the industry," said Robin Zeng Yuqun, founder and chairman of CATL, at an online launch event on Thursday.

The company also announced it has developed a brand new solution, the AB battery system solution, which is able to realize the integration and mixed use of sodium-ion batteries and lithium-ion batteries.
