Suddenly, hoverboards:

Here it is in action:

Range 20km, powered by five miniature turbojet, it requires a 30kg backpack to hold the fuel tank. It can still maintain flight as long as 4/5 jets are still working, the jets have vectored thrust.

China needs to commercialize this ASAP, the west failed at this miserably. More high-tech exports makes it more difficult to de-couple, unless at China's choosing. lets be real, the military applications of this are laughable, but could result in high end manufacturing jobs.

SCMP article about Huawei selling the smartphone Honor brand:

I was already predicting this in august:
The question is: what will happen to huawei. It needs solutions right now, and IMO the way forward for it is to split/sell its smartphone business to another company and keep the 5G infrastruture business.

I was already predicting this in august:
Huawei just sold its Honor brand to itself.

If they sold it to someone in Shanghai or Beijing, then they sold it.

Here this deal, with no mention of price of course, this is absurd.

Just wait until one of the new 30+ owners put in an order with TSMC for 5nm chips.

What this is, it is an escalation of the Huawei versus the US government war. They are preparing alternative routes for shipping of supplies, just like how armies do in actual wars. This move is even more funny because this is guerilla warfare. US army cannot find Huawei in the countryside/consortium.

:p

Note, so how far is Shenzhen from Huawei headquarters in Dongguang? Cantonese people will know.

 :D

Impossible, since these owners don't have chip design for order. There will be possible only bought already ready chips from Quallcom or Mediatek, same as Xiaomi etc.
This is essentially a business transaction, so do not see how this cannot happen.

What we have to expect, is not one of these 30+ companies makes an order for chips banned by US government for Huawei, or IC manufacturing equipment banned by US government for Huawei, through another supplier of theirs.

Suppose a company wants 5nm chips for making O-Ran equipment in China. Just make the order. Obtain the chip design from the designer, and contract that to TSMC.

According to state media, China is only second in the world in chip designers. There are chip designers everywhere in China.

Then try to make all of these transactions in RMB, via the DCEP.

Let the US government play whack-a-mole game with Huawei forever!

There US sanctions acted not only against Huawei itself, but also directly against it's Hisilicon company, that designed Kirin chips. Therefore there impossible make order for these chips even for another company or obtain the design of these chips, as this also threatens with sanctions against the buyer, etc.
BTW in China ARM chips for smartphones also designed by Unisoc company. There are no sanctions against them now, but their chips are worse than the Kirin. I'm afraid that as soon as they make good chips, the United States will immediately impose similar sanctions against them.

HiSilicon sells the Kirin chip design to a third company (with the stipulation that it can be purchase back by HiSilicon, that option has to be in the contract). Someone goes ahead to procure that chip.

That is what I believe is happening here. The Chinese strategy is two fold.

1) The main plan is still China 2025

2) Dare the Americans to sanction everyone, as that may not be possible, as that could break the entire US China trading relationship, something that the USA does not want to happen.

Maybe when the Americans are distracted by trying to restrict Huawei access to chips, the Chinese IC industry can find some parts.
