If true, the fall of Japan is very shocking indeed. Make sense why Japan has been acting like Trump U.S. towards China and South Korean. Tech trade dispute with SK and trying to withdraw companies out of China. I think part of Japan down fall is being under US economic and tech control, reinforced by their security dependence on US. SK can see this and is treading cautiously, not easy nor comfortable to be surrounded by these three biggest economies.
Japan doesn’t need US prodding to view China as a threat. The rise of Huawei and other Chinese tech companies is a direct threat to Japanese tech companies. When Huawei rises, other Japanese companies suffers in market share.

Without tech exports what good is Japan.

Also Japan has looked to the west since the 1800s. Japan’s fate is tied to the west by choice.

SK on the other hand has more potential to be a future ally of China.

that's impossible. Japan has no market share lol
Japan will likely live off of investments abroad, for example, currently its projects in Asia is approx $350 billions.. then there are other areas of the world. Currently, its exports is less than 15(?)% of GDP.

Its population will decrease from current +120 to 100 millions within the next 50 yrs, and the gov has decided to prepare for that route.

Foreigners/immigrants will keep coming into Japan to support their growth and take care of their older ppl.

In the case of MATLAB, it doesn't even need to do that. At most China would have to write a few more libraries for Octave, 90% of the work has already been done.

ahhh, true ... I haven't used Octave (which now version 5.2 Jan 2020), which is free. I should download and run it ... easy to use compare to MAtlab?

Everybody loves to talk about semiconductor and chips tech, but i think another area that China also need to prioritize is genome editing and bioengineering, coronavirus has exposed the true achiles heels of america, thats why this field will give China another layer of "strategic" options in confrontation with the us
China only have one bsl-4 lab, it must build more

Lol, that one China bio lab seems to have out performed all of the ones in the USA based on the coronavirus performance alone. So if China builds more, we can expect much more from China, while the USA is probably a money sink that will produce no results. I mean, China did produce some important vaccines already like the one for ebola which the USA has never done, so I guess they is a lot of room for development there

Hi cbl21,

So it begins, Huawei and SMIC will work together now since both of them are in the same boat. WTAN question, the pressure is off for Huawei to be a FAB player Now that SMIC is sanction?
This is good news for China's Semiconductor Industry.

Yes....now SMIC, Huawei,YMTC & other FABs will work together with the Chinese Academy of Sciences (Changchun Institute) and SMEE to develop the latest DUV and EUV Lithographs. They will also ensure that a fully China made Chip production line will be developed and verified. This will provide plenty of Jobs and also give many opportunities for many Startups to go into Business.

I think Donald Trump will be fondly remembered in China as the American President who personally made sure that China developed its own EDA, EUV Lithograph, Semiconductors, Aircraft Turbofan Engines, Airliners etc.

I think there will be technical cooperation between Huawei and SMIC but i believe Huawei will go ahead to build its own FABs. Huawei will base its business model on Samsung and enter the FAB Business. Huawei has the financial resources to develop the latest Chips and be competitive. Together with the launch of the Open Source Harmony OS next year, this will be the beginning of big things for Huawei.

Recently Mr. Ni Guangnan, Computer Science Expert and Academician with the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAS) confirmed that the SMEE 28nm Lithograph has been successfully developed. This means that this Lithograph is real and will be released next year.
