ABB’s top industrial chip and robotics expert Pang Zhibo leaves Sweden for China

The research heavyweight has joined Peking University’s recently elevated school dedicated to robots and advanced manufacturing

Pang Zhibo, a leading expert on industrial chips and robots with high-end manufacturing giant ABB in Sweden, has returned to China and joined Peking University as a fully tenured professor.

As ABB’s senior principal scientist, Pang was second only to the company’s chief technology officer – who personally appointed him – and oversaw more than 800 developers and 80 technical products globally across all business areas.

Guoyi Quantum's Q-band EPR spectrometer makes a stunning debut

As a leader in domestic paramagnetic technology, QuantumCTek unveiled its new Q-band electron paramagnetic resonance spectrometer series at the conference— the EPR-Q400 high-frequency pulse spectrometer and the EPR-Q300 continuous wave spectrometer . This marks another significant breakthrough for China in the field of high-frequency EPR technology, attracting widespread attention and heated discussion from the experts present.

Compared with traditional X-band EPR (electron paramagnetic resonance) technology, high-frequency EPR technology has higher spectral resolution, stronger orientation selectivity and better sensitivity performance, showing important application value and broad development prospects in fields such as biomacromolecule structure research, spin dynamics measurement and materials science exploration.
The EPR-Q400 high-frequency pulse spectrometer is the flagship product released this time. This Q-band high-frequency pulse spectrometer is compatible with both continuous wave and pulsed EPR testing functions, meeting diverse research needs. The instrument supports variable-temperature experiments over a wide temperature range of 4-300 K, providing researchers with more flexible experimental conditions. Notably, the Q-band high-frequency spectrometer uses the same software operating platform as the X-band spectrometer, significantly reducing the learning curve for users and providing researchers with a convenient and smooth user experience.

For users who only need to conduct continuous wave experiments, QuantumCTek has also launched the EPR-Q300 continuous wave spectrometer , providing more targeted solutions for different application scenarios.

This new product launch showcases QuantumCTek's profound experience and innovative strength in the independent research and development of electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) technology. It not only enriches the domestic EPR product line but also provides Chinese researchers with high-end scientific instruments with internationally advanced levels, effectively promoting the localization process of my country's EPR technology.

How behind are we in high end CNC machines?

I thought Chinese companies can compete in high end CNC just not every subsystem is domestic

China is already full domination in low to mid tech of CNC and also dominating in high tech CNC. However, I think there are ~5–10 years gaps in ultra-precision, especially for aerospace, optics, and medical implants.

The scary part is that China is going all domestic, full supply chain

China is already full domination in low to mid tech of CNC and also dominating in high tech CNC. However, I think there are ~5–10 years gaps in ultra-precision, especially for aerospace, optics, and medical implants.

The scary part is that China is going all domestic, full supply chain
in first half of 2025, Chinese firms took 50% market share in high end CNC category in mainland for the first time.. out of 10 companies there were 6 domestic firms and 4 foreign firms. top 5 positions belongs to domestic firms only.

1. Beijing Jingdiao Group
2. Shanghai Topu CNC
3. KEDE CNC
4. Haitian Precision
5. CATO CNC

A bar chart displaying China\'s CNC machine tool market revenue from 2020 to 2025. Bars show values in billions of RMB: 3269 in 2020, 3690 in 2021, 3925 in 2022, 4090 in 2023, 4512 in 2024, and 4325 projected for 2025. The chart includes a logo with Chinese characters and the text 中南机床工具网 and (www.ASIC.COM) at the bottom.

KEDE CNC machines widely using in Turbofan Engine blades production.

so 5-10 years term is not accurate, yeah German and Japanese machines still have edge in terms of reliability and performance but domestic firms almost caught up.. they are squeezing so hard in domestic market and rapidly expanding in South east Asia.
