I think they expecting to be able to make 3nm at TSMC again under Biden, so 2021.
They are saying something.

We just do not know what.

Maybe they are suggesting that 3nm will be done for Huawei by TSMC in 2021.

Otherwise, 3nm will be done for Huawei not too late after that.

I thought I read in the Chinese article, along with the many opinions here, that the light source is what China really does not have at the moment.

China is a country that made a quantum computer using lasers, firing a single photon. This is a country that knows something about light sources.

That is what we do know.

What we do not know is what they are thinking when they say that about 3nm coming soon.

What's the release date for the Kirin 9010?

Even if the CIOMP EUVL demonstrator/prototype gets rolled out this year and goes straight to the production line, it'll probably be until 2024-25 that say, SMIC, will produce 3nm (2022 for 7nm EUVL nodes, 2023 for 5nm and then a two year or so gap until 3nm).

I actually see an earlier date for 5nm/3nm production tape-out if/when the EUVL is available. The news is that SMIC has already got all the engineering process ready for 5nm and 3nm, so the efforts towards their final production tape-out will probably go in parallel with the 7nm efforts once the EUVL becomes available. The 5nm/3nm efforts would probably require more time than the 7nm but I suspect the efforts will start off together to avoid the delays as much as possible.

Honestly Huawei should try to be the Android of China instead of Apple by licensing Harmony OS to BBK and Xiaomi. China doesn’t need another smartphone manufacturer but it does need its own mobile OS to compete with iOS and Android. Huawei already got enough things on its plate with the new OS and chip fabrication.

They are exactly doing that. You have OpenHarmony which is like Android Open source project. Question is more will Xiaomi and others use Huawei mobile services instead of GMS.

If the HarmonyOS documentation is anything to go by they will use linux as the kernel for their laptop and desktop products and HarmonyOS as shell somewhere in 2021~2022. And soon they will ship a laptop with Kirin chipset running the linux Deepin distribution.

Linux is still buggy. I am on Deepin OS and today when I opened my computer it said "Updates required, please download." So I downloaded and installed updates, however when it got to the last update the "Updating..." bar was stuck there for ages. When I tried to restart my computer, it said "APK file is installing, please do not shut down or restart." So I was afraid of doing anything, but when researching the issue I found another person had the same problem and just cold booted. I cold booted and it came back up fine with the update (!)

So yeah, if they want to make Linux the basis of an alternative they really need to improve the stability of the platform.

The rabbit..it keeps going and going.
Yutu is still rolling on the moon.
They’re both still working today, which is remarkable because they’ve endured many of the Moon’s nights during which temperatures drop to below -170°C for a fortnight at a time, plus lunar days on which the mercury can reach 120°C or more.

NASA requests to use the Queqiao relay satellite, and China granted it.
China granted that request, meaning that if NASA ever gets its Artemis moon shots flying, they may well rely on the Chang'e-4 mission - and find Chang'e-4 and Yutu still working.
Huh? What about those politicians in US who banned NASA to even communicate with China?
