On December 31, 2025, Sodium Technology announced that its large-format (above 25 Ah) all-solid-state sodium-ion battery cell achieved an energy density of 348.5 Wh/kg, certified by the China Automotive Technology and Research Center. The battery utilizes a "high-specific-energy layered oxide cathode + anode-free" technology. The cathode, optimized through atomic-level design, combined with the anode-free structure, significantly enhances energy density and cycle performance. This breakthrough challenges the traditional perception of low energy density in sodium-ion batteries, surpassing mainstream ternary lithium batteries, and is expected to promote the application of sodium-ion batteries in high-end power, aerospace, and other fields.

SIB has a theoretical potential of 472 Wh/kg.

said the United States no longer offered the freedom that researchers once expected – a key reason for his decision to continue his work in China.

Xu, who joined

(SJTU) as a tenure-track assistant professor in January, left behind a team leadership role at Atomic Semi, a California start-up with high-profile backers that included OpenAI’s venture fund.

Before his departure, Xu led a team that was developing a new kind of chipmaking machine using 3D-printed parts that would be smaller, faster and cheaper than today’s large, costly production equipment.

i don't know if i should post it here since its military related but also science related.

The TPG1000Cs is the world’s first compact driver for a high-power microwave (HPM) weapon, capable of delivering an extraordinary 20 gigawatts of power for up to one full minute.
Measuring just four metres long (13 feet) and weighing only five tonnes, it is compact enough to be mounted on trucks, warships, aircraft or even

Until now, similar known systems could only operate continuously for no more than three seconds and were far bulkier.

Author is Stephen Chen so I'd take this with a good amount of salt until we can see the paper corroborating it.

This is the paper. TL;DR the pulse generator he describes is real but it's not clear it could be weaponized in the way he says. Still it's a highly valuable experimental tool.

CSSC 711th Institute participated in the development of a core equipment for million ton class ethylene plants - the methane tail gas expansion recompression unit.

This project was led by Sinopec Engineering construction and it marks breaking another foreign tech monopoly.

Current status of Dongfang in export market. It secured 5 G50 export orders to Kazakhstan and Iraq in 2025.

The value of each GT is 100m RMB. Additional waste heat boiler is also 100m RMB -> 200m RMB per unit. So, this confirms G50 does combined cycle. So each full set is around $28m per unit.

have pushed the frontiers of quantum encryption, demonstrating a powerful new way to send secure information over more than 100km (62 miles) of optical fibre – without having to trust the equipment being used.
A team led by

at the University of Science and Technology of China used a pair of individual rubidium atoms, trapped in laser beams at two separate network nodes, as the foundation for their system, according to a paper published in Science this week.
The researchers created quantum links between the atoms using single light particles, or photons. By comparing the atoms’ states at each end, the team generated identical strings of 0s and 1s – a shared secret key for encryption.
What sets the experiment apart is that the approach, known as device-independent quantum key distribution (DI-QKD), would still work securely even if the devices were flawed or had been tampered with.
The method derives its security from the quantum-mechanical behaviour of the entangled atoms, protecting against the real-world vulnerabilities that have long challenged quantum communication systems.
DI-QKD had previously only been demonstrated over short distances in the laboratory, the researchers wrote, adding that their study helped to “close the gap between proof-of-principle experiments and real-world applications”.

Honestly 100km's is kind of insane.
