Can SMEE accelerate its 28 nm machine to be ready this year, if possible? If not, when is likely the earliest they can roll their 28 nm lithography machine out?

I still think that recoverable rockets are more economical than spaceplanes.
Only the booster can be recoverable, the main/final stage can't without expensive heat shield or spare fuel to deaccelerate the rocket.
Of course the heat shield for a liquid hydrogen tank prohibitively expensive, but even for a kerosene it is expensive ang huge .

All of these will decrease dramatically the LEO capacity. The booster mass increase it only proportionally. And don't forget, the booster required mainly to push out the rocket from the atmosphere .

Link/Source? What's the point/big deal? SMIC can buy litho machine from ASML. Or are you saying it's a EUV machine? If that's the case, who provides the after-sale service?
There is some reason to be concerned that with the latest US sanctions, ASML will be barred from selling systems to SMIC.

Guys, this whole talk of 7nm vs 14nm is yesterday's debate.

The future is cloud processing. With 5g, you DON'T need local cpu power anymore. Who cares about 7nm vs 14nm when all your processing is going to happen on a cloud mainframe?
With 7nm you can manufacture more power efficient chips and you can cram almost four times the transistors on a chip of same size. Look at Nvidia’s cloud computing chips: they are always pushing chip size up to the reticle limit.

Hi cbl21,

Be patient my padawan, all will be reveal in due time, if you read all the post by WTAN, 2021 will be a blockbuster year for all of us here in SDF.
According to an insider working at SMEE
-The Prototype of the SMEE 28nm Immerssion Lithograph is currently being manufactured and will be ready soon.
-3 units of 28nm Lithographs are being made and SMIC and Huawei are getting one each. They will use it for trials and verification.
-The SMIC 40nm FAB will be completed end of this year. The 28nm FAB will begin construction next year for completion in 2022. However with the SMIC sanction this will definitely be built much faster. After the 28nm FAB will come the 14nm FAB.

This US sanctions wont affect SMIC much. As i have said before 14nm Chips only make up 2% of SMIC sales. Once the new 28nm and 40nm FABs are built their sales will return to normal. Sales will actually increase as the new 28nm FAB in Shanghai is huge.

SMIC will also continue to operate their existing FABs with foreign equipment normally in the mean time as they have stockpiled enough parts and supplies. (Look at the Nikkei article below) They will also be able to get parts locally from other FABs which operate the same equipment or other suppliers.

They may even have enough parts to go ahead and produce their N+1 Chips and possibly supply Huawei.
They can also continue to produce 14nm chips.

SMIC also recently raised USD 6.6 Billion in an IPO in Shanghai recently and they will use it to build several large FABs equipped with China made Semiconductor equipment.

A lot of projects probably got fast tracked and received greater fundings because of the sanctions. That said, I expect that a lot of speculators will take advantage of governmental funds and subsidies but in the end the ones that remain will be competitive, perhaps even internationally.
