New Energy Vehicles (NEVs) in China

The great thing about European auto de-industrialization is that most of these countries (aside from Germany) will have no domestic automaker to protect. And if Chinese brand continue to build factories in Poland and Hungry, they will be able to sell them to European countries without facing the type of local market protection you would see in US or Japan.

A little more on just the sheer incredibly growth coming at BYD

Here is someone's estimated ramp up to BYD production this year broken down by announced factory capacities. As we previously heard, they probably have a huge backlog of over 400k that's probably ever growing with all the new product launches. And boy, do they need to keep selling cars to deal with the additional capacity coming online or what. So April, they were estimated to be at around 105k. May to September are estimated to be 128k, 148k, 170k, 196k and 215k. All contingent on how much COVID slows things down further. Looks like Hefei and Jinan are coming online in the second half of this year. If this is correct, they are going to probably get to 250k per month by the end of this year. It's definitely not normal to see this level of growth. In dec 2019, they were at around 10k. Dec 2020 was around 25k. Dec 2021 was around 90k. So, possible 25 to 30 time growth in 3 years. Absolutely crazy. Mind boggling to consider how hard it is to ramp up this quickly and train all the workers for this much work. A lot of the legacy automakers have boasted about how they will reach certain level by 2025 or 2030. BYD is actually doing all of this and without any boasting.
The day European automaker lost probably will be the final day of Europe as great power. They already missed out digital and electronic revolution, what else do they have?
Maybe chemical.

Does it autonomously run over anyone with a low social credit score?

No, but it might prompt people who make non constructive, gratuitous and provocative posts, to receive the permanent ban that they've been warned about.

Won't chemical go down the gutter with higher energy prices though?

Or well chemical production in Europe will become uncompetitive atleast.

Well BASF already warned that cutting Russian energy will destroy Germany's industry. Let's see what happen in the future.

BYD and Tesla were almost equal in sales in Q1 but Tesla pulled ahead in april with 180k compared to BYD's 106k. Hopefully BYD can close the gap

I can try to list a few factors that contribute to that phenomenon.

(1) As I mentioned in a previous post, each province and tier-one city is essentially its own economic eco-system, even though they are part of an integrated national economy. It sounds like a contradiction. But like many other things in China and as Chairman Mao said, contradiction is norm as well as opportunity.

(2) Even though west often says China has a long-term strategic plan, the history of China says majority of people and institutions have been short-term, because of their entrenched interests and self-preservation.

(3) The best group of people who have been creating and maintaining premium brands are jewish. If you compare thinking and action between the two people on branding, you may glean some detailed insights.

(4) The western MSM definitely is motivated to "抹黑" any Chinese significance, because that suits their short-term and long-term interests.

(5) The world has been brain-washed by the western civilization for 300 years. It is extremely hard for Chinese brands to educate those brain-washed people. Heck, still there are so many people in China are still buying German cars, Japanese cars or even Korean cars. As a car owner of A6 and LX470 and 4Runner of decades, I can tell you that establishing a premium brand against MSM brain-washing is an extremely difficult undertaking.
Here is an up-to-date case that verifies (4).

There Is a TikTok Challenge We All Need to Face Up To

TikTok, as we know it today, is only a few years old. But its growth is like nothing we’ve seen before. In 2021, it had more active users than Twitter, more U.S. watch minutes than YouTube, more app downloads than Facebook, more site visits than Google. The app is best known for viral dance trends, but there was a time when Twitter was 140-character updates about lunch orders and Facebook was restricted to elite universities. Things change. Perhaps they have already changed. A few weeks ago, I gave a lecture at a Presbyterian college in South Carolina, and asked some of the students where they liked to get their news. Almost every one said TikTok.

TikTok is owned by ByteDance, a Chinese company. And Chinese companies are vulnerable to the whims and the will of the Chinese government. There is no possible ambiguity on this point: The Chinese Communist Party spent much of the last year

out of Jack Ma, the high-flying founder of Alibaba. The message was unmistakable: Chief executives will act in accordance with party wishes or see their lives upended and their companies dismembered.

You cannot get a more MSM than NYT in US. Yet again, with a deceiving title, the article does not reflect on why China's internet sector has been catching up so quick so well. Instead, from some-not-so-subtle angles, the author blemishes the technical innovation and the commercial ingenuity of TikTok and its creator. Rather, it is once again {China, CPC, Xi} etc. you name it. In the US, our kids are educated with the Constitution and the social norms from day one in grade schools. Respect the rules of the games that people have voted for. But obviously that does not apply to whoever the ruling elites don't like. And yet at the same time they expect the rest of the world to follow and follow. This is yet another example of me saying "they always want to have the cake and eat it too".

I'm not sure how that's possible since Tesla's shanghai factory was shut down for half of April and operating at half capacity for the other half. April will probably be the first month BYD surpasses Tesla in NEV sales in the recent years. Now, Tesla is expected to reach 2 million/year production rate by the end of this year (

), but BYD will probably hit 3 million/year by the end of this year. That's not to say Tesla isn't doing great. BYD is just going for a more aggressive ramp up plan than anyone.

One thing I would watch out for is if BYD can outsell Tesla in BEV over the next few years. I would put that as unlikely for now as long as they continue to sell almost as many PHEV as BEV.

It all depends on how much battery supply BYD and Tesla have bought up, and the key bottleneck right now is lithium supply.

BYD and Great Wall are the only auto companies that have made equity investments into any sorts of mines.

You read this correctly. 617 GWh from already announced plant locations, which still does not include any oversea plants that they will likely have to build.
617 GWh would be enough for 10 million passenger EVs. So it would be enough for BYD's planned 4 million passenger EVs and an unknown number of electric commercial vehicles such as electric buses. After these, BYD probably can still supply some other EV makers.
