So apparently a deal with CALT fell through with Apple for the Apple car because Apple wanted CALT to build a US factory that exclusively built batteries for Apple. Elon Musk announces a deal with both CALT, to build a factory in the US, and also some other deal with BYD for blade batteries. Not really clear on the chronology of things. Remember Elon Musk has bad history with BYD from early on and also he and Warren Buffet who invested into BYD don't get along. And on top of all that CALT and BYD were concerned about building a factory in the US with all these anti-China winds blowing in Washington. Of course making money is always the most important but it would be interesting to know the details and how all this came together.

@AssassinsMace Sir both occupy their owned niche market, my view Apple brand wouldn't carry such weight unlike Tesla which dominate the market (EV). OEM are not stupid to build a factory exclusive for Apple with a untried product in a different market segment and here you'll see the arrogance of Apple and how their monopolistic attitude is the reason why they can't innovate. BYD and CATL saying NO should be a wake up call for Apple to realized that they are not special and suppliers can grow without them.

Yes that aint going to happen. Lol, Apple thinks that the Chinese are stupid. Like, they would have CATL built an entire new factory only for Apple. And some years later Apple would blackmail them to lower prices and CATL would be forced to agree because it couldnt sell to other customers

Good that CATL told Apple to take their "contract" and get out

@Overbom bro such condescending attitude, why would CATL and BYD acquiesces when they are the market leader with multitude of customers, Apple thought without them they can't grow...lol They should be reminded without the Chinese market they wouldn't grow as big as they are now. White privilege don't apply for the Chinese only the smell of money does...lol

It is not Apple's fault. Apple knows very well their own inept government will place sanctions or tariffs on any Chinese company with superior technology. It would be much safer to have CATL to supply Apple with a factory in the US. At this point, it is doubtful any big car makers will make EVs for Apple. Why would they help another potential competitor?
