responding to @escobar but forgot to quote the post.

the article you linked is really interesting and I will read later. quick response though. industrial policy is a market distorting practice. and there are IMO broadly two ways to distort the market: policies to gain access or deny access of market, tech, product, labor, etc. The article correctly assume that China can climb the tech and value chain thru its own competitiveness in the market, but only in none-strategic domains. but we all know F-16s or Intel chips will never be made in China, even if these companies can lower the cost by moving productions to China and China has a perfect market economy. In areas with anti-access policy from the west, China has no choice but enact policies to gain access.

Interesting. How much mileage can you expect?

I don't know. You are being serious, while I was joking around, but you asked a good question.

They used to tell me, that a Japanese car, one of those workhorses, not fancy, just durable, would last 300,000 km mileage will the owner just takes proper maintenance of it. Taking good care of it, would make it last to 400,000-500,000. I think someone told me once they still had it on the road at 600,000.

From my experience, the two GM cars we had, from the past, neither reached 200,000 km mileage. One got close, then one of the piston went through the engine block while warming the car in the winter. The whole thing rattling like nuts. The other car probably was around 135,000 and the engine died.

There was another car, but we had to rebuild the engine, that did not last that long either. Forget the mileage, but no way it was 200,000 to 300,000 range.

NIO is impacted from semiconductor shortages

Nio delivered 6,711 vehicles in May, a 95.3% year-on-year. However, that was a 5% decrease from April.
“In May, the Company’s vehicle delivery was adversely impacted for several days due to the volatility of semiconductor supply and certain logistical adjustments,” Nio said in a statement.

Can make up the lost ground in June however
“Based on the current production and delivery plan, the Company will be able to accelerate the delivery in June to make up for the delays from May,”
