A Chinese startup China Car Custom (工匠派 in Chinese) announced on 26th of April the official launch of its SC01 electric sports car, with a starting price of RMB 229,800 ($31,530).

The SC01 is 4,106 millimeters long, 1,830 millimeters wide, 1,170 millimeters high and has a wheelbase of 2,503 millimeters.

It has a curb weight of 1,365 kg.

The model is available in only one variant with dual electric motors, both with a peak power of 160 kW.

Its powertrain's combined peak power is 320 kW and peak torque is 560 Nm, allowing it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.9 seconds.

The SC01 is powered by Li-ion ternary batteries supplied by CALB with a pack capacity of 60 kWh and has a CLTC range of 520 kilometers. The batteries are placed at the middle-rear of the car, instead of under the chassis like most EVs.

According to a report by 36kr on September 26, 2022, Xiaomi spent tens of millions of yuan to invest in the startup.

I feel this car has insane value for money as a sports car. The prior Chinese high-performance cars are either more practical orientated and thus too heavy, like the Zeeker 001 and the Xiaomi su7, or have less performance, like the Neta GT and the MG cyberster. A proper European sports car at this level of performance would cost at least $100000, and would cost more in China due to import tariffs.

March top 20 list of car sales, irrespective of technology. Notice: only one full ICE car in top 10. First five are BEVs. This strengthens my conviction that PHEVs will slowly fade over the coming 5-10 years.

Also note that only a single Chinese company has an ICE model in the top 20. The turn to EVs was really the biggest blessing that the domestic car industry could ask for. Recent news about collapsing car imports from the West & JP/SK (which are heavily loaded towards ICE) seems to point to collapsing ICE demand too.

Surprised that despite all the talk, Tesla is still the top selling model. Weird, thought they will be unable to compete in China at all.
