Kind of a misnomer, it's solar powered, so it's not REALLY underwater...
Some questions
Something less than 10 years old is pretty cutting edge, no?
How can we be sure it is not a civilian model?
I dont understand why the US left it alone. Shouldn't they be escorting it all times to ensure its security?

Part of it is on the surface while part of it is submerged. The underwater part apparently has a towed sonar array for ASW. I wonder if the capture of this thing will net any technology windfall.

This thing is designed to be left in the ocean and only requires service once a year (mostly to scrap off barnacles growing on the sensors). The captured example seems to be in decent condition.

Japan urged China to accelerate efforts to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions, echoing calls from the U.S. ahead of global climate talks later this month.
“It is important for the democratic countries to have one voice to encourage China to be more proactive,” Japan’s Environment Minister Shinjiro Koizumi told a BloombergNEF summit
Interesting choice of words. Let me translate it to you, Japan is officially an adversary.

China’s “air pollution control could directly affect our people’s health and society. We are calling on China to move ahead of its 2060 carbon neutral pledge, and to urgently peak-out their emissions.”
Synchronized strategy with the US. It seems they want to whitewash US' inaction on climate change and start the propaganda machine against China.

Leaders from 40 nations will attend a virtual climate summit organized by U.S. President Joe Biden from April 22-23 aimed at galvanizing efforts to commit to more ambitious greenhouse gas mitigation targets.
Very nice of Xi giving face to Biden while Biden accuses China of "genocide". Reciprocity....

Japan still hasnt paid for what it did to China.....

How dare they lecture China on climate change when they willfully dump radioactive poison into ocean to genocide the food chain?

Great analysis. You can foresee the propaganda incoming.

But, this is really easy for China to deal with, because China is doing more than any other country I know of. One of my favorite pages, and one I visit everyday is the China Daily’s environment page, It is so inspiring, and if I ever feel down I visit because it shows such hope and such tremendous progress, really awe inspiring...

I don’t think Xi will be too forceful in the meeting, but in front of the 40 world leaders he can ask how they can reduce their emissions further while under technology sanctions? How can they produce the high tech equipment that they and the while wold need?

I’d love him to challenge the US to see who can reach net zero first, make the US spend more and more on it, increasing the pressure on their military budget.

Chinas propaganda machine really needs to up their game, if China is going to act like a super power then the world needs to know the truth of what they are already doing, and compare that to the USA.
