Reportedly India is looking everywhere in the world mainly from western countries for winter sub zero artic type of clothing for their military in ladakh. The price is very deep, $1800 a set. India also try to use Vietnam to get those from China but China already aware and therefore not successful. India currently only has enough those special clothing's for high rank officers. Not the majority foot soldiers. Whereas China on average , clothing's for their soldiers only cost 2000 yuan. Huge differences because China is the factory of the world
Many analysts anticipate huge amount of Indian casualties during this winter as ladakh temperature drops to minus 40 or 50 degree. Much like Napoleon and German casualties in Russia.

How many India casualties? Let's make a guess!
This was my post that I edited to "fake news". The rumour also said due to the price India has abandoned the attempt at equipping all the troops with winter clothes. The source claimed was The Tribune and I went there to try to find this article but couldn't find anything. So I'm disinclined to believe it.

That's why you have to make sense base on your judgement
Even without the news I don't think India has this type of special clothings. Look at big store like Walmart the specialty jacket and shoes for severe cold, all from China. India , Vietnam cannot make this type. They don't have the supply chain.

If India try to western countries for this type of military grade clothings, and I suspect they source from China. yeah, over $1000 a set is very possible.

That price and short notice almost guarantee India won't have enough for all their soldiers

-40 degrees is the temperature at the Chosin Reservoir where an entire company of PVA froze to death while laying in ambush for the retreating Marines

Did China really have a comparable phase? Maybe very long ago. For the last seven decades China has long since abandoned superstition and obscurantism.
I'd say "similar phase", and you'd understand what I said when you look back at China's anti-Japan frenzy during the 1st decade of 21st Century.

And actually suffered similar problems like that of today's India - China's dependence of Japan in key production phase, dominance of Japanese brands...

Nice fake story.
US and Austria has already delivered 85000 sets of winter clothing to India

Crampons:
With ice and snow setting in Ladakh, it is assumed the PLA would be equipped with add on crampons on the boots to avoid slips and falls.
Alternatively micro-spikes might work.
Russians seem to use crampons and on flat terrain they used to use skis, but now use motorized sledges instead.

India did opt for snowmobiles. Dated news, and its not clear if these are still in use.
These snowmobiles would still need fuel and special engine modifications to avoid altitude related power loss.
Also the terrain is not always flat like Canada. There are crevasses and rocks beneath the snow. The snowmobiles make a noise giving away the locations.
