I mean, it's not really high tech, is it? China has been having those for years already, self-heating food.
They bring out new version of the MRE every four years. This most recent batch was introduced in 2017, hence Type 17.

Troops were complaining that Type 09 wasn't filling enough, so when Type 13 was introduced they just straight up gave you the main meal twice in one package lol. So then the complaint with Type 13 was that the main meal was quite big enough (if not a bit too much), and the MRE could use more little side stuff like deserts, which the Type 17 somewhat fixed, although still much room for improvement there compared to like German MRE.

The complaint with Type 17 seems to be that it doesn't come with any soft drink or anything like that and instead have a soup package, which is a pain in the ass to prep in the field since you need hot water. And in any case guys in the field prefer soft drink not soup. That's why you see in those UAV meal delivery videos they are air dropping cans of coke.

I recently looked this up and ordered four PLA MRE on AliExpress due to my wife doing a terrible job on lunch selection on our last ski trip.

Well given that China's attack was largely unprovoked (e.g. the lack of Indian troops on the border which made the initial Chinese advance easy) and basically generated by Mao's paranoia about his control over Tibet rather than because India was planning or even objectively threatening China, one might understand if India doesn't remember the 1962 offensive terribly well.

Also it's the CCP's position that it suddenly stopped when "all objectives" had been achieved. In reality it had to make do when India sent reinforcements and probably would have taken more territory if it could have.
In reality, you have no idea and invented a version that you wish were true. Basically, when China doesn't reveal details, you accuse them of hiding a defeat and when they do make revelations, you accuse them of lying because you're looking everywhere for Chinese faults but can't find them.

Funny you should mention that, has China got around to confirming how many Chinese personnel were captured or casualties? Because I can only remember the PLA saying that there were "casualties". One wouldn't want to think specific details hadn't been released because it was trying to cover up equally or relatively embarrassing numbers of dead, injured or captured.
That might have been a plausible theory if the PLA hadn't released at least 60 Indian POWs (not to mention all the accounts of minimal casualties and injuries on the Chinese side). If the PLA wasn't overwhelmingly satisfied with the exchange, the jailbirds wouldn't have gone home, no matter how much they complimented the tea. Funny, I could have sworn I told you this before... oh yeah, you like to ignore points that are inconvenient and repeat what you wish were true.

Your wife must be giving you something truly horrible if you're switching to MREs for your holidays. You could just, you know, get some nice local food on the day.

(For clarity, the below was added after siegecrossbow's like).

This guy who reviews MREs didn't think much of the 2018 Type 13.
It's at a ski place, no place to cook and food is way overpriced. We did end up buying food. She mostly got cans and bread buns. Then again I'm never really bothered by things like airline food, just not cold food on a cold day.

I hear menu 9 is by far the best, my order is 3, 5, 8 and 9.

The following video presents a clearer picture of what India has lost in this current conflict. The area in question is where both Chinese and Indian patrols would overlap each other. In the video , @7:31 , the red line on the left is what China perceive as LAC, while India perceive the orange line to the right as LAC. So the land between the red line and the orange line is disputed territory (orientation is any land futher to the left is India, any land further to the right is China). What China did is to stop Indians from patrolling in that strip of land, and it's now in complete control by China. Note that the person who uploaded this video and provide the narration is anti-China.

This guy who objectively reviews MREs thought the 2018 Type 13 was pretty nasty, so I wouldn't recommend anyone run out and buy some. Although it may also be better than what the Indian Army gets.

I mean you're going skiing. If you can't afford the food, how can you afford the skiing? Also, even if you insisted on having hot food that wasn't served up in an expensive restaurant, why not get an actual vaguely nice MRE like those had by the ROK, Japan, Australia, etc armies instead of PLA mystery meat? Even if you couldn't get the exact same ration packs civilian companies also sell MREs.

To be fair This guy like type 17 MRE (which is what Temstar is trying) a lot better.

I missed that video and just had a look. He says it's much better but it's only been upgraded to "palatable". So it's not really your go-to for an MRE unless you want to say you're eating what the PLA does when they don't have access to their normal kitchens.

I just hope Temstar's wife isn't too demanding. A lot of women I know wouldn't be happy with just a "palatable" MRE.
