What are the main differences between PLAAF and PLANAF versions of J-10?

Probably larger wings (for low speed stability when landing), marine grade steel (to avoid corrosion in sea environment), reinforced landing gears for catching the aircraft with arresting gear.

I don't think this is a carrier version of J-10, but only navalized in terms of being used for sea control, but from land bases. Maybe this version has somewhat different electronic equipment or it can carry anti-ship missiles?

You're thinking of J-10s for carrier landings... the PLANAF J-10s we're seeing right now do not look very different to PLAAF ones -- they're land based as well.

I imagine the avionics would differ slightly to the PLAAF analogue, but we have no way of knowing in which areas and to what degree. We haven't seen pictures of J-10s carrying KD-88s or Yj-83s but I imagine they should be able to... PLANAF J-10s will probably be used mainly for air superiority rather than anti shipping, which will be left for JH-7s and MKKs and MK2s, H-6s.

Hmm so they are retiring J-10 now. Why don't they retire J-6 or J-7?

J6's are retired and J7's are being retired (see above posts).I'm not sure why this J10 is retired ,possibly a design fault or something i have no idea.I would think it is far too early to see J10's retiring.

This is probably one of the prototypes or early serial production models and it might have been used for weapons and equipment testings. That would mean that this example has flown many hours and that could be an explanation why is it being retired.

Hmm ... a new photo of a "B" with maybe 1034 !

However the first "B" with the IFR-probe ... so either a forth prototype or the first one ready for delivery ... but still with the AL-31FN.
