As far as I remember no. 03 never had a pitot !

IMO the most interesting thing to know on the B-program yet is what aircraft was/is that grey one seen some time ago (was it no. 03/1033 painted but stil w.o. number or a fourth aircraft ?) and when do we get a first picture of the first serial bird reportedly just flown in late Febr/March !

When I first read that, I misread pitot as "pilot." I almost jumped out of my seat thinking the J-10B was a drone.

Anyway, are you saying it is in production now?

I personally think China should devote more resources into training its pilots than only focusing on its equipment. The only difference between the Israeli air force and that of the middle east is the quality in their pilots. When Israel was in war with those Arab nations, they did have superior weapons, but those F-16s were not advanced enough to have complete dominance over the Arabs if it wasn't for the eliteness of their pilots. The same applies to the Eritrean–Ethiopian War. The only times when planes were shot down was when Russian mercenary pilots were piloting the fighters.
From the news I have read and watched on the PLAAF, all the training assignments were extremely simple. All they had were flying long distance between airports and shooting down low speed drones. Even the "more challenging" assignments were still just flying without radars on within regions filled with electronic countermeasures and flying in bad weather. I barely ever seen them conducting training missions similar to the Red Flag and Top Gun, where pilots actually practice realistic air battles, not mentioning dog fights. We even barely see them performing exotic manoeuvres other than those in airshows.
If the pilots are not well trained, then doesn't matter how good the equipment are, they still will end up like what happened in the Eritrean–Ethiopian War.

I think they are training more than broadcasted, training is not really something that progresses faster if you throw more money at it. Also training in the most modern tactic makes sense if only if a sufficiently large part of your force is sufficiently modernised.

I think they actually conduct red vs blue training in which the blue team is flying 4th gen aircraft and red had to counter them with older J-8s and the like. It's part of their asymmetric doctrine development.

Of cos, money did help in training. Russia Air Force pilot lack in hrs of training compare to western counterpart becos they cannot afford the fuel and will also shorten the airframe's life.

They also lack fund to buy better simulator with more realistic capability.

The pilot skill is worse than Soviet times.

Nice catch! Looks like PLANAF (People's liberation Army Navy Air Force... lol) -- will start to go through what the PLAAF did around 2004... With the comparitively lower numbers of older aircraft in the PLANAF I wonder if they can get a higher proportion of 3rd/4th generation aircraft before the PLAAF.
